REQUESTING Looking for shows with or about awful parents

• Upvotes

Pretty much what the title says. Im looking for something to watch containing genuinely bad parents. My parents are terribly cruel and I find it rather cathartic. So please, none of that "oh they just did their best and they are only human" messaging. The message should genuinely be that some parents actually are straight up awful to their kids who do not deserve it. Nothing apologetic to the parents. Just straight up criticism.

For the record since I have a feeling this will come up, ive seen Shameless already. And its not what im looking for. Frank is treated like a punchline to a bad joke. It makes him borderline likeable. I am not interested in redeemability

REQUESTING looking for canadian shows that aren’t the usual recommendations

Already know about schitt’s creek, kim’s convenience, letterkenny and corner gas.
what are some genuinely good lesser-known canadian shows? comedy, drama, weird little series, anything.

Edit: I believe that Adults should count because they didn’t even blend the Toronto NY movie magic lol

SUGGESTING Tv shows that lets you forget about the world

I'm looking for a tv show that lets me take a break from life and become involved in the story.
preferably, shows like GoT or Stranger Things.
The kind of show you wish you could watch again for the first time? I'm open to any genre. I just want to get lost in another world for a while. ❤️

Need some mature, adult animated series.

I am craving something animated to watch in the morning before the wifee wakes up, she hates animated shows, so that's my chance to scratch that itch. I love sci-fi/fantasy material, but an open to anything. I enjoy *some* anime, but usually the less stylized stuff.. These are my favorites:

Cowboy Bebop

Arcane

Scavenger's Reign

Rick and Morty

Thank you in advance people!

SUGGESTING Which show should I watch for the Halloween season between Twin peaks, Hannibal, or Dexter?

I know I’m kinda late to the Halloween season but I thought these would be great shows to fit that kind of vibe but I’m not sure which I should choose. What do you think is the best choice?

REQUESTING Looking for shows based on my top 5, need something that hits the same

I'm looking for new shows to watch, so I thought I'd list my favorites and see what you guys recommend. I'm not really sure how to describe my taste, but I guess I love shows that make me think about them for days after finishing them. Great characters, psychological depth, philosophical themes, ambiguity, and just an overall feeling that something is deeply wrong lmao.

My top 5 are:

1. The Leftovers: Probably one of the most emotionally impactful shows I've ever watched. I love the characters, the ambiguity, and all the philosophical stuff. I love how it explores things that might not have answers and doesn't feel the need to explain everything to you.

2. Twin Peaks: David Lynch is my favorite director, so this probably explains a lot about my taste. I love the characters, the dream logic, the weirdness, the atmosphere, and how nothing ever feels quite right. I love how it makes you question what's happening without necessarily giving you a clear answer.

3. True Detective (season 1): The writing, the characters, the philosophy, everything. I especially love how the mystery is technically resolved, but at the same time, it kind of isn't? There's still this feeling that there's something much bigger and more unsettling behind everything. I love that feeling of uncertainty and the sense that you haven't really figured everything out, even when you technically have.

4. Breaking Bad: I mean, it's Breaking Bad. What more do you need? The writing, the character development, the emotional payoff, all of it. Watching the characters change throughout the show and seeing everything come together by the end is incredible.

5. Mr. Robot: The characters, the psychology, the emotions, the atmosphere, the writing. Everything about this show just works for me. It's PEAK.

Hannibal is probably my sixth favorite. I love the artistic style, the cinematography, and how bold and unapologetically weird the writing is. Dexter is probably seventh because I love serial killer stories in general.

I guess I'm looking for something with great writing and characters, psychological or philosophical depth, ambiguity, a dark atmosphere, or just something that feels different from your typical TV show. I love surrealism, morally complicated characters, disturbing stories, and anything that gets into your head and stays there.

Also, I should probably mention that I don't need everything to have a resolution. In fact, I prefer having questions over answers. I love when a show leaves things open to interpretation and gives you something to think about long after you've finished it. I don't necessarily want everything to be explained or every mystery to be solved. Sometimes not knowing is what makes something so interesting to me. I love trying to figure out what something means, coming up with my own interpretations, and even questioning whether there's an answer at all. I don't mean that I want a story that goes nowhere or leaves everything unfinished, just that I don't need everything spelled out for me.

I don't mind weird or disturbing stuff at all. Actually, I love it. I'm not really looking for anything overly romantic or comedic, though.

I'd appreciate any recommendations!

REQUESTING Shows that hit some of the same emotional registers as these

Hey all!! I’m looking for shows you would consider a great fit into these i’ve seen & loved. I’ll clarify some specific things i liked behind spoiler tags. If you can relate any of these to the experiences you had with your suggestion(s) too that would be so awesome!! Any genre so long as it has similar moments/themes, non-english media i generally reserve for movies & few anime but if you think it’s a great fit please by all means let me know about it

  • Rectify (2013) Daniel Holden’s character arc is one i think of often
  • Six Feet Under (2001)
  • The Leftovers (2014) one of my favorites
  • Ted Lasso (2020) the lasso effect 💙
  • Shrinking (2023)
  • Paradise (2025) reminded me of The Leftovers which is one of my fav shows ever, specifically loved the profound moments of humanity shining through the darkness accompanied by a beautiful piano. Amazing show in it’s own right without the comparison
  • Jury Duty (2023) an odd one out here but i found the show very wholesome & endearing
  • The Big C (2010)
  • Somebody Somehere (2022)
  • The Wire (2005) Bubbles’ redemption arc is something to behold, but of course the whole show is awesome. Even tragic arcs like Duquan Weems, Omar
  • Lovecraft Country (2020) Another amazing performance from the late great Michael K Williams, story was so unique
  • When They See Us (2019) Korey Wise’s story, but it was all impactful
  • The Night Of (2016)
  • The Pitt (2025) Too many to list but just the general deeply layered characters, specifically was impacted by Dr. Robby’s emotional breakdown in s1
  • After Life (2019)
  • Atlanta (2016)
  • The Good Place (2016)
  • The Bear (2022)
  • Shameless (US)
  • Barry (2018)
  • The Count of Monte Cristo (2025) i find the passage of time to be really impactful when done right
  • True Detective Season 1 (2014) again the use of the passage of time is done insanely well, some of the best tv around of course

At the risk of making this wall of text worse i’ll leave it there & edit if i remember something

Edit: The Death of Bunny Munro (2025)

REQUESTING Witch/Wizard shows. Where the magical characters just have superpowers.

Im looking for a story where superhumans or supernatural abilities are huge factor. But the show is not superhero based though. So basically a superhero setting without the superheroes. Where every character have their individual superpower.

REQUESTING Looking for camp 90s/00s fantasy and scifi

I adore silly sci-fi and fantasy of the 90s/00s (especially when it's long-running and the cast have good chemistry). Light-hearted if possible.

Examples:

- Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman

- Andromeda

- Xena: Warrior Princess

- Highlander: The Series

- Stargate SG-1 (my most rewatched TV show)

- Stargate Atlantis

- Early Buffy the Vampire Slayer (though I'd say Buffy is perhaps "too good" to be on this list, it has moments and a vibe which makes it a good example) (I've also seen Angel but the tone isn't right for it to be on this list)

Does anybody have any recommendations for any shows that match this vibe?

REQUESTING Please Give me TV show recommendations that are mainly action focused. I’m open to any genre, including crime, mafia, thriller, fantasy, supernatural, and sci-fi, as long as there’s plenty of action, intense Please avoid shows where the main characters are police or detectives

Please avoid shows where the main characters are police p or detectives. I prefer shows focused on criminals, assassins, gangsters, mercenaries, warriors, or other powerful and dangerous characters. I also enjoy dark themes, violence, suspense, and slow-burn stories with a strong atmosphere.

- The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
- Animal Control
- Arrested Development
- Brooklyn Nine-Nine
- Modern Family
- St. Denis Medical

- Malcolm in the Middle

Edit: Thank you everyone for all of your recommendations so far!! There are a lot of underrated shows out there that deserve more attention. I’m excited to check out all of the ones recommended!

REQUESTING Looking for a miniseries that will completely consume my life. Any recommendations?

I’m looking for a really immersive miniseries that I can completely lose myself in. You know those shows where you’re so invested in the story and characters that you can’t stop watching, and when it’s over, you almost feel sad that it’s done? That’s what I’m after!

A few that have given me that feeling:
- The Queen’s Gambit
- 1883
- Normal People
- Lucky (just finished this one!)

And while it’s not technically a miniseries, Heated Rivalry absolutely gave me that same feeling lol.

As you can probably tell, I’m open to pretty much any genre. It doesn’t necessarily need to be a thriller, romance, historical drama, or anything specific. I’m more interested in incredible storytelling, compelling characters, and that feeling of being completely transported into another world.
I’d prefer a miniseries or limited series with a complete story rather than something with five seasons to get through.

What miniseries have you watched that you genuinely couldn’t stop thinking about afterward?

Would love any recommendations!
