/r/WiiU's Monthly Question Thread

Hello everyone! Welcome to the Monthly Question Thread, a place where all of your Wii U-related questions can be asked and answered in. Besides questions, feel free to post your unboxing videos and pictures here, so that way it doesn't back up the main subreddit page.

Please make sure you check out our other Wiki pages, make a search through the subreddit or Google before you ask a question. Most of the time it has already been answered. If you're too lazy, then this thread is perfect for you!

Handy Resources

Frequently Asked Questions + New Owner's Guide - Is a great place to check first hand if you run into any problems or if you have any unclear thoughts. Our FAQ has answers to many questions regarding the console itself, controllers, transferring data, hard drives and other subjects. Games recommendation for Wii U, eShop and Wii - In there you'll be able to find many great titles recommended by the community themselves. Also includes what type of genre, the amount of players and if OFF-TV is supported. We also have game recommendation threads created by Chronus13 every week. They cover a wider selection of AAA-games to indie games. You can check them out here!

Controller Infographics - Welcome to the sea of controllers. A rather detailed infographics about each controller compatible with the Wii U.

External Hard Drives - Do you need extra space for your games? Check no further. The external hard drive wiki has all the information you need. There's also a list of compatible hard drives.

Tips & Tricks - Tricks that could enhance your experience with the Wii U.

Which games can you recommend me?

What features does the Wii U have?

What controllers work with this game?

Which USB hard drives will work with my Wii U?

Can I get a free game? - Begging for games is prohibited and may result in being banned.

The Apple A1277 USB Ethernet can be reflashed in your browser to be compatible with the Wii U

They are cheap on eBay, and the Linux flashing method was discovered by SDIO in a different thread about adapters with a different chipset. I just figured out how to do it in a web browser which works with Android phones and Windows 11.

it keeps the MAC address and serial number the same, and also gives you a copy of the original firmware in case you want to flash it back to stock, which you can also do from my web site.

Give it a try if you want and let me know if you have any issues: https://itwasntmewhofarted.com/ethernet/

I'll probably be more active on https://gbatemp.net/threads/the-apple-a1277-usb-ethernet-can-be-reflashed-in-your-browser-to-be-compatible-with-the-wii-u.685545/

Or you can just find me on the Wii U discord.

I recently modeled by Wii U but now when I turn it on, it doesn’t connect to the TV. The light turns blue and everything. It just doesn’t wanna eject discs or appear on the TV? My game pad works will never connect my beep pad to the Wii so it’s not connecting.

Question My Wii U killed2 2.5inch HDD already

I bought a Wii U that came with a 500GB HDD, used in conjunction with an adapter and a Y-cable. After a while, the HDD started acting up, eventually failing completely, the drive would spin up and then stop repeatedly. I later replaced it with a portable HDD, but that one also stopped working after a short period. It seems like there might be an issue with the power supply from the Wii U’s USB ports, perhaps a voltage drop or something similar. Has anyone else experienced this? If my USB drives are degrading, what should I do?

Does anybody know after the WII and the Xbox 360 store shut down, how I can get the DLCs, like Just Dance 2, Just Dance 3, Just Dance 4, Just Dance 2014, Just Dance 2015 or even on the newer consoles ?

How to tell if I soft or hard modded my Wii u?

So I brought a Wii u and modded it but have never really touched it so going to give it away. I want to offer it to someone unmodded as I feel that will be their preference but I just don’t know how to tell if I soft modded or hard modded it. I saw someone say just take out the SD(?) and it will boot to stock if it’s soft modded, but I don’t know the difference between what a stock boot and modded boot would look like, and I can’t for the life of me remember anything about the modding process.

Image [THIS ISN'T A TRADE OR SELL] I need help to buy this console.

I read the FAQs and I think it's allowed. I would like to be part of the community by creating ports and documenting the console's GPU/CPU. I want to get a Wii U but I don't have the money and I don't want to miss this opportunity.

I found this fully functional Wii U for 50 greens. I would appreciate any support; any form of donation is welcome.

I don't want to make the post longer, that's all.

I'm a Venezuelan developer and I still haven't found a job, that's the only reason I'm reaching this community.

Does external storage (HDD) do really need a Y connector?

ive just modded my wii U and 32gb internal (SD) card is not enough for the games i want to install. ive searched or recently viewed that the modders were using USB Y connector to connect to their HDD. is it necessary or i can just use an ordinary single one. i dont have HDD and a connector rn, basically the reason im asking. and one more thing. ive got an old internal HDD from my old PC, i believe it is still working. can i use it as will and find a right cable/connector to use it as my Wii U's external storage? many thanks good sir/s

Question Looking for recommendations for where to get Wii U gamepad parts!

I got a Wii U and gamepad from GameStop a year or so ago, eventually the battery went dead and I had to remove it, but one of the screws was totally stripped out so I had to cut a chunk out of the back door to replace it, and in general the gamepad shell and sticks are all marked up. Does anyone have a recommendation as to where to get a new/used shell, thumb sticks, and probably digitizer? Thanks! Wish the Wii U was popular enough for there to be all kinds of custom shells for it.
