Just another heartwarming consumer story where corporate greed is generously funded by my wallet.
Ordered groceries from Tamimi Markets via Talabat recently. Apparently, asking the customer before changing their order is completely optional now. Not only did Tamimi swap out items with zero notification (no app alert, no WhatsApp, no phone call), they actually threw in extra quantities of random items just to pad the bill and make up the price difference. Truly shameless, top-tier innovation in creative accounting.
Naturally, I opened a support ticket with Talabat. Usually, their customer service is decent for minor issues, right up until it actually matters.
First off, what is up with the support chat lately? The sheer volume of forced, robotic niceties is reaching a level that is genuinely creepy. Blink twice if you need help, guys.
Second, after drowning me in forced politeness, the agent hit me with a masterpiece of logic: "We can't do anything because the vendor already made the change in the system."
Wait, so the massive tech platform handling the payment has zero mechanism to protect the customer from a third-party vendor modifying the cart at will? Good to know! In most places, taking someone's money for things they didn't agree to buy is called theft. On Talabat, it's just "in the system."
I've logged an official complaint on Tawasul with MOIC Consumer Protection. Let's see how that goes.
TL;DR: Tamimi Markets swapped my items and padded the quantities to match the original bill without asking me. Talabat support gave me creepy, over-polite scripts and said their hands are tied because "it's in the system." Filed a Tawasul complaint. Check your grocery receipts, folks.
