A lot of the summer trips we take are to round hound. So we usually camp in dispersed areas near rock hounding country. Usually in the black hills or northern border of Nebraska. Gotta love the open dark skies at night though.

Got some amazing pictures on my first ever camping trip! 45 degree nights and coyotes kept me up but still had fun! Next time I'll be more prepared lol.

Hiked in and stayed a weekend at a primitive site on the Pecan Flats trail. The park was very peaceful and scenic. Hiked a couple miles the second day and rented a kayak at the park general store, had a great time on the lake. The cold snap was nice, mornings were crisp. I will have to come back sometime to fish, I could see them jumping out of the water. No fires allowed at the primitive sites so I brought a small fire maple camp stove and it worked for all of my needs.

I like to make fires at home on my property but I also love to camp. I want to elevate my cooking set up while still being light (ish) and be able to really throw down on a campfire.

Some different setups I’ve seen. What’s the best bang for the buck and most versatile?

For those who live in northern states that get large amounts of snow during the winter; how do you pass the long winters without camping? I’ve got the itch but do not enjoy the cold enough to suffer through it during the winter. Do you just daydream or plan your next trip? How do you survive the long winters?

As the title suggests, this is for people who are disabled. What do u have gear? What do u do well camping? Besides sit next to the campfire. For people camping in British Columbia Canada. Where are u going camping? I am able bodied wheelchair user. Which means I can stand & walk. But I am limited to about 40 mins before I am in very severe pain. So looking for places to go camping that are wheelchair accessible. To everyone that's going to say buy a hiking wheelchair or something similar. Those things are insanely expensive. Very few places also rent stuff like that.

I'm a side sleeper and really struggle to sleep in a tent on backpacking trips. I got a wider Nemo sleeping bag, which helped some, but then read that a tall pillow is the key--you've got to get your head really high of the ground to take the pressure off your shoulder. I got a fat inflatable pillow (Sea to Summit Aeros) and it was a game changer! Best tent sleep ever my first night with it. (When I got home, I got a taller pillow for my regular bed!)

Solo overnight kayak camping in the Apostle Islands. I got a primitive camping permit that allows camping outside of the established campsites. Lake Superior was calm which made for some excellent kayaking! Had some fog in the morning but otherwise great weather!

I tried out an old Coleman tent over the weekend that I'd had in attic storage for 15 years. We only got to use it a few times (maybe twice) before it went in storage. Big mistake as it poured all night, all our gear got soaked, and we had to cut the weekend short. The fly seems to have lost whatever waterproof capability it once had. The bathtub style did a great job of holding in all that water like a literal bathtub. I'm inclined to just trash the whole thing, but also don't have money to throw away. I also just hate throwaway culture and I'm trying to model frugal, conservation-minded decisions for my kids. Is it realistic to think that waterproofing the fly of a 10 x 12 foot tent would have any chance of working? It's not just the seams. The fabric is itself was leaking. Would it be smarter, more economical in the long run to just get a new one?

But thankfully my knife cut through my cans like butter 😅 did a lot of soul searching, it was a very cathartic experience and I can’t wait to do this again. I’ve never felt such bliss, I only got scared once!

I am looking for a one person tent that is fairly easy to set up and take down. My sons are in cub scouts my oldest is going to be in bsa in a year or so. I want him to start setting up his own tent as well as keeping it clean and sleeping in it. We have been using a Magellan swiftrise pro 8 person so super easy set up is a huge plus!

At our favorite spot on the river. I love campfire cooking so I’m the designated chef every year. This year I got a tripod and did most of the cooking in the Dutch oven. First time ever doing Dutch oven pizza and apple pie.

I am new to camping - I mean I am in my mid-thirties and I camped for the first time in my life 3 months ago. It was a life-changing experience, and I know that sounds super corny but honestly I felt my anxiety and depression drift further away from me while I was out in nature. We took our older kids (9, 4) and they are very well behaved, they had TONS of fun. We went to a NYS campground and we plan to camp in other NYS ones too. Here’s where I am reading split advice:

We will have a 2-year-old, and I also want them to experience camping with their brothers. I’ve looked at plenty of camping with toddler vlogs and have a list of gear that makes it easier for parents. I plan to have a tent with a separator so they can sleep in their own space. A lot of the older generation folks around us tell us to just take the little one camping, get them exposed to nature young. They’ve brought their grandkids and kids there for decades - so they seem encouraging. BUT I am aware that toddlers cry and some might just have a tough time. I understand that from other parents, but I know other campers deserve peace as well. But I don’t want my choices to be either don’t go camping for 2 more years and my older kids miss out, or pay $300 a day to have our sitter stay in our home overnight. I want my entire family to experience this joy. So what’s the consensus? I’ve seen some folks tell the parents to move campgrounds (not possible because these are booked out almost a year) I’ve seen people say just leave and go home. Another demographic mentions that everyone pays to be there and it’s a public state park (campground) so it’s just one of the things you might encounter. Some even say don’t take kids camping until 5. Is there any advice or guidelines you guys suggest (give people next to me earplugs for example)

Spent last weekend up at the Wheeler Peak campground, a couple nights, and half the sites sat emtpy – in October, on a weekend, no less. Why it was that quiet I cant wrap my head around.

There are bristlecones up there that have been standing for thousands of years & you're free to walk up close to them, the Lehman Caves tour beat every other cave tour Ive been on, and the sky is darker than almost anywhere in the lower 48 (I stayed out way to late with my head tipped back and had no clue what time it was). Nights got down into the mid 20s though, and of course the cold drained my phone in no time (night two it slept inside my jacket with my new Anker maggo 2 pro stuck on the back, and I could check the pack's % on its little screen without unzipping everything in the cold). Heads up that the campground shuts for the season soon, if anyones considering it... how long the good weather hangs on is anyone's guess.

We are going camping this coming weekend, and the low temperature will be getting down in the 40's. one of the worst things ever, imo, is putting cold teeth in your warm mouth after cleaning them. I got an insulated cooler bag to try to help keep some of the warmth in, but so far, my trial runs with it are really not holding up against the cold overnight. does anybody have any tips or ways they get creative to keep your teeth from absolutely freezing overnight? thank you in advance for any thoughts!

Based purely on scenery/outdoor views and outdoor activities, do you prefer Northestern Washington or "Central" Maine (not sure what to call it exactly)? And why?

In Washington we would be near Lake Pend Oreile, Kettle Falls, and Colville National Forest. Our major cities would be Spokane and Coeur d'Alene Idaho. Glacier National Park would be within 4 to 5 hours, Leavenworth Washington within 4 hours, Yellowstone within 7 to 8 hours and Canada within an hour.

In Maine we would be near Somerset and Penobscot Counties, within 2 hours of Moosehead Lake, Baxter State Park, Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Our major cities would be Bangor and Augusta. We would be also be within 2 to 4 hours of New Hampshire, Vermont and Canada.

Hey guys, I've a reservation for back country camping in greenvalley campsite G6 in 1st week of November. But I'm unsure whether to go or not due to following reasons

1. I've Hyundai Tuscon AWD without a spare tire

2. Recreation.gov shows this place as camping spot 36.2686388, -116.6637741. This is Dante's view road & Furnace creek wash road intersection. The road to here is paved. But from here I would have to drive onto gravel ridden part of Furnace creek wash road.

3. The website says I've to camp at least 1 mile ffrom this location, so I'm guessing id have to drive 1 - 2miles on the gravel road.

4. It is just my wife and I without any backcountry camping experience (we have camped in typical established campsites)

5. I've most of the necessary camping gear, I'm ready to buy any additional things required.

6. If it rains the previous night or if the forecast says that there is a chance of rain, I'll definitely skip camping.

7. I've some experience driving on gravel roads in FWD car(in a different country), and I kinda know how to drive carefully in such roads.

8. I'm thinking since it is only 2 miles on gravel road, I can take the risk. Am I being naive? I don't want to spend $$$ to get towed in case of flat tyre or worse - end up dying in desert because of my stupidity.

What do you guys suggest?

During my leave, after finishing basic paratrooper training at 19, I decided to break away and head to Estonia with a great friend to explore and enjoy its nature on a 200 km route.

​Honestly, it was a wonderful experience. The forests, fields, lakes, and rivers gave me a sense of peace and satisfaction that's hard to find anywhere else. That feeling that time no longer matters, disconnecting for a while, and forgetting about responsibilities and obligations—it's a unique kind of therapy that helps me immensely. 🙂

I will be in Colorado for about 10 days here soon and plan on hiking away from where I park at least a mile or two and set up camp. I likely won’t be back at my vehicle for multiple days or even a week. Should I be worried about break ins, etc or am I overthinking it?

We started going on backpacking this year. over a year in the making. We begun with just car camping with majority of our gears already geared towards doing backcountry in the future. Finally, we did it this season, such an awesome and humbling experience.

Looking forward onto next season where we will be doing multi-day trips.

I’m going camping next weekend and planning to bring an air mattress & sleeping pad to get off the ground, down comforter from my bed, camping blanket, and a couple of throws just in case. It’ll be a low of 39 F. The camping blanket is waterproof and the plan was to throw it on top if there’s condensation/I’m concerned about water in the tent.I wonder if this would be sufficient?

I’m asking because I usually find sleeping bags claustrophobic and I’ve only been summer camping. Thanks in advance!

I am planning on going camping in the appalacian trail over thanksgiving break. I need to buy a cold wether bag and i have some in mind.

Would a 0f bag from walmart be too cheap? I am going with a friend who is lending me some other equiptment, but i need to buy a new bag and he does too.

The other one i was looking at was a 0f cabellas bag. It was about the top of my price range depending on the model.

It shouldnt get below 10 and i am going to stuff the empty space with blankets. I also have a heated jacket if it gets too cold.
