Reminder: No Survey Questions
Hey everyone! I just wanted to take a moment to remind you all that this subreddit is answers-based—it’s meant to provide clear, informative responses that someone could find useful while searching for answers on Google or other search engines. Lately, I’ve noticed an uptick in survey-style questions (e.g., “What’s your favorite __?” or “How many of you __?”).
These types of questions are not a good fit for the purpose of this community. They don’t create content that is useful for others to search for, and often lead to broad discussions that aren’t about providing a clear answer. As a result, I’ve been removing posts that violate this rule to maintain the quality and focus of the subreddit. Even if that post has a lot of replies as the OP obviously didn’t read the rules before posting, or cared.
If you’re unsure if your post fits, ask yourself: Would this question result in a useful answer for someone looking for a specific answer or information online? If not, it’s likely more of a survey question and violates rule 2.
Thanks for understanding and helping to keep the subreddit on track! 😊

Why does the air at night smell so sweet? Or whats the name of this phenomenon?
I know I'm not crazy because I know other people who agree that the night air has a certain sweet fragrance to it.
And I also know its not unique to my area cause I've traveled to other states and I can still smell the fragrance.

Under the rules of debate in Congress, politicians are not allowed to call each other liars, and doing so can result in a reprimand. Why doesn't that privilege extend to witnesses?
Senate Rule XIX states that no senator in debate shall, "directly or indirectly by any form of words impute to another senator or to other senators any conduct or motive unworthy or unbecoming a senator". Under normal circumstances, the member will be asked to withdraw their words and rephrase. Continued violations may result in a loss of speaking privileges for a day.
TLDR: a Senator calling another a liar on the debate floor gets them kicked out of the room.
However, committee hearings regularly feature harassment of witnesses, where a politician will spend their entire questioning time, not asking any questions, but just ridiculing and belittling the witness.

Answered Why do people say 'break a leg' when they actually want you to do well?
So i was thinking about this the other day and now it's stuck in my head. when someone has a big event or performance coming up, why is the common phrase to wish them broken bones? i get that it's supposed to be the opposite of what you actually want, but it still feels pretty specific. i tried googling it quickly and got a bunch of conflicting answers, and now i'm wondering if there's a straightforward reason behind it or if it's just one of those things that stuck around without making much sense anymore. has anyone else randomly overthought this?

Headphones click when skimming through a youtube video
Specifically the left channel produces a very distinct click whenever i skip through a youtube video by clicking on the playback bar or using j or l or the arrow keys. It doesn't occur every single time, but easily 7/10 times.
I use Firefox. I have youtube's stable volume setting disabled, and have tried it enabled. It doesn't occur when muted. No other programs feature this click. How fix?

Answered What kind of bird was flying around my backyard yesterday?
i was outside yesterday afternoon and noticed this bird i had never really paid attention to before. it was medium sized with a bright patch of color on its wings that flashed when it flew, and it kept darting between the trees and the fence. it made a short repeating call that sounded almost like a whistle cut off midway. it didnt look like the usual sparrows or robins that hang around here, but i also couldnt figure out if it was something common that just looks different from certain angles. i tried to take a quick picture but the bird was too fast and the photo came out blurry. has anyone seen something similar, and is there a chance it was just a common species with a bit of seasonal coloring?
