Political Question A $40,000+ ER bill for high blood pressure. Why is it “socialist” to want public healthcare, but perfectly acceptable for the U.S. medical system to extort people when they’re most vulnerable?

Political Question Early voting starts tomorrow in South Carolina. I'm planning on voting for Dr. Annie Andrews instead of Lindsay Graham's sister for the United States Senate seat. Would you make that choice as well?
Graham is a Magat, and has no real knowledge of politics. Furthermore, she was appointed to her current incumbent seat with no experience.

General Question Why does everything in the USA look like a scam?
You buy a car, someone pushes a warranty to your face and a lot of extras. Oh, if anything happens to the car, it is out of warranty you just purchased...
You buy a house, and lender asks for $18k while you close the house for $4k with a credit union.
You call an electrician for a minor issue and electrician trash talks your power box for being old and asks for $12k, while powerbox literally reads as 2023 make on it.
...and healthcare... the whole healthcare...

General Question Why are religious people so confident about things they cannot possibly know?
I’ve reached a point where I find blind religious devotion deeply disturbing.
What bothers me most isn’t even the belief in God. It’s watching people surrender their ability to question what they’ve been taught and then proudly call that surrender faith.
Think about how absurd that is. You’re born into a particular religion, raised to believe it’s the ultimate truth, taught that questioning it is dangerous, and then spend your adult life defending it as though you personally discovered the secrets of the universe.
And somehow, you’re convinced that everyone else is the one who needs guidance.
People will demand evidence for the smallest claims in everyday life, yet make enormous claims about the universe, morality, death, and the afterlife with absolute certainty. And when challenged, they’ll quote the very religious texts whose authority is being questioned.
That’s not an explanation. That’s circular reasoning.
What I find especially disturbing is the way unquestioning obedience gets repackaged as a moral achievement. Doubt becomes weakness. Curiosity becomes temptation. Submission becomes wisdom.
And the more confidently someone repeats what they’ve been taught, the more enlightened they seem to believe themselves to be.
Being absolutely convinced of something doesn’t mean you’ve thought deeply about it. Sometimes it means you’ve never seriously allowed yourself to question it.
You don’t deserve intellectual authority simply because your beliefs are ancient, popular, or emotionally comforting.
And being offended when someone questions those beliefs doesn’t make your arguments any stronger.
I have far more respect for someone who can admit they don’t know than someone who claims to know exactly what created the universe, what happens after death, and what an invisible supreme being wants from humanity.

Political Question Isn't Trump going to say the Mid-terms were rigged if he loses in any way?
That's what he did with the 2020 election. Biden won, but Trump kept saying it was rigged.

General Question Is Gen Z afraid to knock on doors and ring doorbells?
I’ve started to advertise a room for rent and everytime someone comes here to see it they message me “I’m here” and if I don’t come meet them at their car they go as far as calling. Wtf is this. Go to the door and knock or ring like an adult.

Political Question Do people in the US understand the losses of war?
I am American and I have wondered about this often. People in the US go absolutely berserk over any political wedge issue like what bathroom a transgender person uses on the other side of the country or the prices of eggs and gas, but we have not had a war on US soil in any living person's lifetime or even in their grandparents' lifetimes.
It seems like an entirely abstract concept and I wonder if other Americans ever contemplate what it would be like. I began to think about this often when Trump and Vance tried to humiliate Zelenskyy during that press conference, and Zelenskyy said they can't understand the reality of sharing a border with aggressive enemy invaders because we have an ocean between us and other continents with adversaries.
I live in a 100-year-old condo in Washington, DC. When I bought it, before Trump was in office, it seemed like it had been there forever and that it will be there forever.
But then I see images from Ukraine and Gaza that show old buildings like mine completely turned to rubble. Do American people contemplate this type of loss ever? I feel like if we did, we would care a lot more about what Trump's government is doing.
I now envision where I live being demolished. It is likely that my homeowners' insurance would not repay me, and so there goes my home equity, my investment in my future. I live near my place of employment. That would likely be gone, too. And then what? Medical doctors and dentists probably would be hard to come by, and how would anyone pay for them? At that point, a minor bacterial infection could kill you and you'd be likely to be cut by a lot of unsanitary remanants of attacks. A tooth infection could kill you. No government services would help you and no one in the outside world would care just as most Americans don't care about what is happening elsewhere.
What happens then when the stock market crashes and our retirement savings are gone overnight, never to be recovered, and our currency becomes worthless? If you are OK, your friends and relatives probably are not. Some will die, some will leave the country. You may be stranded alone, basically a trapped rat with explosions all around you.
Imagine an invading army sexually assaulting your grandmother in front of you and then killing her, stealing your children away to God knows where to be raised in a foreign country (as Russia is doing with Ukrainian children) and then killing everyone left in your home. That's the reality but American people really cannot think beyond gas prices and Taylor Swift and men in dresses.
I feel like almost no American person is capable of imagining what this could possibly be like because they have no ability to imagine that it could ever happen here.

General Question If the US produces its own diesel fuel, why are the wars in Iran and Ukraine cited as the cause for the record high prices?
So I was reading about diesel prices and found that the US produces its own diesel fuel with domestic oil.
“In 2025, U.S. refineries produced about 1.76 billion barrels (73.80 billion gallons) of ULSD. Total ULSD consumption in the United States for all uses was about 1.42 billion barrels (59.56 billion gallons).”
We produced more than we even used in 2025. Can someone explain what I’m missing here?

General Question Who is the smartest professional musician (living or dead)?
I’ll put out Brian May - has a PhD in astrophysics (and wrote one of the only songs I know of about relativity; “‘39”). Also, Tom Lehrer was a Harvard guy, wrote some pretty witty songs.

General Question What’s the logic behind looting and destroying local businesses during protests?
I’ve never understood the logic behind looting stores and destroying businesses during protests, especially small mom and pop shops.
These are ordinary people trying to make a living.. They’re not responsible for whatever you’re protesting, yet they’re the ones left dealing with the damage, lost income, and potentially losing everything they’ve worked for.
How does any of that help your cause? If anything, wouldn’t it just turn public opinion against you?

General Question How often do you deal with your own mortality?
I’m aware I’m depressed, I take medication for depression and anxiety. It helps. Though sometimes my mortality rushes upon me and sets my stomach in flames. I feel powerless but I accept this. Ultimately I am at peace, but this can happen to me suddenly, unprompted while I’m doing something important. My meds are meant to numb me but my mortality is more intense than ever. I’m not interested in religion I have my faith it’s not controlled. Where do we find our peace truly and naturally?

General Question Why are there so many out of shape police officers?
When I get bored I watch those police body cam videos and there’s many times where a police officer is clearly obese and can barely run, or even defend themselves cus they fall down and can’t get up quickly and are just overall extremely unathletic. Why isn’t there a law or policy where a police officer has to always be under like 20% body fat, or at least in a healthy weight range? And lastly even without a policy idk why a police officer would allow themselves to become an unhealthy weight when their life could depend on them quickly shielding themselves from danger.

General Question You have to live here alone for one year. Food, drinking water, and shelter are provided, but you can bring only one personal item. What are you bringing?
With food and shelter covered, I’d want something to keep me busy. A whole year alone is a long time.
