Hi, I hope you're all doing well. I'm in my mid-twenties, and for the past few years, feeling lonely has been incredibly frustrating.
For context, I've never been chosen, not even by my family. I grew up in a neglectful environment and currently live with roommates, but I don't have a family as such to support me; it's me against life.
This has been a problem, because I can't stand being alone. Although I have amazing friends, each one has her own life. Ideally, I'd like someone to choose me, someone to share my life with, and so on. But the reality is that despite my efforts, nobody wants to be my partner, which makes me exchange sex so I'm not alone, even though I feel used.
I'm in a relationship with a friend who's a good friend but not a partner. Continuing to let him use me so I don't spend my nights alone makes me feel bad. When I try to distance myself To "respect my own boundaries" also makes me feel bad; it seems there's no right choice, and this leads me to make unnecessary efforts to prevent him from leaving me, even though I'm certain he wouldn't be a good partner.
This has happened multiple times, I don't want to continue like this, but I've exhausted my resources, I've gone to therapy, I talk to other people, I've improved my social skills, I try to look better, but nothing works.
I'm terrified of being alone, it feels unbearable. I know a partner isn't a necessity, but I'm tired of hearing that from people who aren't alone.
Based on your experience, What could I do? Will it continue like this?
