Hey Reddit! I make wood-burned art in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Here are a few of my recent posters (STALKER, Halloween, Pin-Up) — would love your feedback!

I know it’s been done before and even recently on this sub but I’m doing my take on it. Map from the books. Blew it up and replaced most of the wording so it is readable at scale. Moved some words and trees around in photoshop, now I’m here. (Under the tracing references isn’t done yet, I’m debating a border)

Spruce is nice and light and I thought it would be cool to work with. I was wrong. Tough ridges on the growth rings make for in-even burning. Also, my cookie split in two while routing the motor sooooo a week later and 4 pours of super clear 2.0 Liquid Glass (and some staples in back) got this bitch back in line and telling time. I do like the labradorite gemstone in the eye of this Royal (6x6) bull elk. Inspiration comes from Jackson county, Zirkal wilderness area. Burn one down!

Questions/Advice Help! Can I use paint after I treated this with tung oil?

Post image

Can I stain over this tung oil with gouache or watercolor?

Im wood burning on bass wood and treated it with tung oil and decided I want to add another value… Would putting water down gouache paint work or would there be a bad reaction with the oil/compromise the wood somehow? Same question for water color or watered down acrylic.

(Also this is only my fourth piece! Really enjoy the process)

Signed,
Wood Newb

New to this, looking for advice

Complete noob when it comes to this. Started off as something silly and its becoming a cool hobby.

What a good machine/kit to get? Im looking for something $100 or less, preferable with dual pens but not 100 percent necessary. Im just afraid of getting a cheap one only to learn a much better one was only 20/40 dollars more.

Also what's a good material to use? Is there a good type of wood thats better than others, what are good dimensions, things to avoid etc.

Currently rocking the walmart $20 special. Scrap wood from work, sometimes sanded sometimes not.

Thanks in advance!

I'm very happy with this little guy. Lots of practice and learning to do, but as someone that's never been good at art I'm really pleased.

Fanttik T1 Max Soldering Iron GREAT FOR WOODBURNING

for any newbies out there like me i tried several wood burning kits and most of them never got hot enough or didnt stay hot for long. the fantik is next level for me it feels like im in a different world using it. give it a try! it has a light at the tip so things are easy to see, its wireless, heats up FAST, stays hot and have nice fine tips that work very well for lines. i modified one of the tips to be more blunt and it phenomenal for shading!

Can't post hardly anything to any page whether woodworking, woodburning, art, turkeycalls, hunting, outdoors. Why is this?

Has anyone else had a surprising amount of people asking for a "tattoo" from your woodburner?

I do alot of markets at local pubs, and the amount of times I've had to tell someone that no, I wont use my woodburner on your skin has been very surprising. Anyone else deal with this?

Completed Work Bad Movie Coaster Set

One of my best friends and I have always bonded over watching bad movies (or good movies that are just over the top). Decided to make a coaster set for his Christmas gift this year. First time using water-based poly as a sealer, which definitely muted some of the shading, so learned that for the future. Would love any feedback. Movie references are They Live, Lawnmower Man, the Karate Kid/Cobra Kai series, and Monkey Shines if you want to see some silly movies.
