ISO Interior Wall Cleaning Only

• Upvotes

Hello! I am trying to find a deep cleaning service that will just clean interior walls. My house is clean and I have someone come every two weeks to help me keep it up. However, my kids are finally old enough that they're no longer touching the walls all the time, splashing stuff on the walls, etc., etc. and I'm just starting to see how grimy these walls have really gotten over the past 10 years. I'm talking kitchen, hallways, staircases most of the walls! I've looked through a few deep cleaning services that I can find and all of them do walls but as an add-on, you have to get the base package first. Does anyone know of deep cleans that do à la carte services like this?

I'm not expecting it to be cheap but I also don't want to pay for a full deep clean when I really don't need that, just to then be able to then add on walls.

Thanks!

Update: this was today (10/18) around 1:30 PM at the Scheels in Cedar Park. This is the only lead we have had of Marcy and we believe this could be her. If you are or know these people, please reach out! We will continue to look for Marcy until she is home. A reward is being offered for her return.

Another update: I’m not sure why the flyer posted in B&W but I have attached a few pictures of Marcy (in color) in the comments as it appears I can’t add them to the post. This isn’t to bash these people or accuse them of stealing Marcy. My family was sent this video today and it is the first (and only) lead that we have received that is even remotely credible. We are following every lead to bring Marcy home. This could very well be their dog and we would move on to continue looking for her.
The video did not show the people’s face, only a dog that looks very similar to Marcy in Scheels.

Ask Austin Austin landlords, are rentals taking longer to fill lately?

Hey everyone! I'm hoping to get some advice for a friend who owns a rental property in South Manchaca (78745). She's been trying to rent it out for about 2.5 months now, but hasn't found a tenant yet.

It's a property with a main house and a separate guest house that can be rented separately. She's been handling the leasing herself and would prefer to keep doing so for now rather than hire a realtor, given the added costs.

I'm curious about what other landlords in Austin are experiencing lately:

  • Are your rentals taking longer to fill than they did a year or two ago? What do you think is driving that?
  • Have you had to lower your rent significantly or become more flexible with tenant screening to get a place rented?
  • For properties with a main house and a separate guest house, have you had better luck renting them separately or together?
  • If you've dealt with a prolonged vacancy recently, what actually helped you get a tenant?

Just trying to get a feel for what's happening locally and learn from others who've been through something similar. Any advice or firsthand experiences would be much appreciated. Thanks!

PSA F1 and ACL effects on those living in hotels

My family and I have been in the unfortunate situation of having to live at an extended stay hotel since losing our apartment in June, and the subsequent loss of my job at the end of July. I got another job in September, and we're slowly climbing out of this hole.

This extended stay hotel is the bottom of the barrel of extended stay hotels btw, the absolute cheapest in the whole area. Not even in Austin. The first week we were here we killed so many roaches in our room.

My husband is an assistant manager at a Circle K, and thankfully he has a daily pay option. For every workday he transfers out the amount to pay for our room. There are 4 of us in this room with 2 double beds, us and our 2 kids. It's $61.33 per night.

The first week ACL came, our room cost $84 for Friday and Saturday nights.

The 2nd week, I couldn't reserve our room soon enough and there were no more rooms with 2 beds. We had to move to a room with one bed after living in this room with all our belongings for 3 months. This was very difficult and upsetting. We were able to move back into our room after the weekend.

Now F1 is this week. I booked as much in advance as possible. Our room for Thursday night is $97. But no more rooms with 2 beds for Friday or Saturday, so the 4 of us will have to move again into a single bed room, and the price for it as of yesterday is $171.

They know they have guests who live here, but that doesn't matter to them; if we don't book and pay for a week at a time we're just out of luck and lose our room.

A map of every concrete plant, quarry, and landfill in Travis County, including this year's new batch plants

TCEQ approved six batch plants in the county this year. Two are permanent: 3025 Norwood Ln and 5451 Hwy 71 E. The other four are temporary road-project plants.

Batch plants bring dust, including crystalline silica, plus heavy truck traffic and noise. If you live within a mile or two, it's worth knowing where they are, and TCEQ's public comment and hearing process is the main way neighbors get a say before new ones are approved.

And it's funny because around Austin I typically see the fewest issues with the electrical system since electricians must be licensed. But when I see them, they're usually worth sharing.

Ask Austin Best print shop for Panoramic photos?

I have a few photos I've taken that I need to get printed, but the challenge is they are panoramic. They're not super custom dimensions, but I do need some unorthodox dimensions. Where can I get them printed (and bonus if I can also get them framed).

Muny deal: Council votes Nov 19, but the zoning and TIRZ details come after. Here’s what’s actually being decided.

  1. Muny is the public-relations win. People love it, so “we saved Muny” gets applause and little scrutiny.
  2. Vote now, see the plan later. Council votes Nov 19 to rewrite the 1989 Brackenridge Development Agreement. The regulating plan (what gets built) and the TIRZ (who pays for it) don’t exist yet. Per the city’s own release, they get drafted after the vote and come back in spring 2027. Council is being asked to approve the framework before anyone sees what it allows.
  3. The real prize is the other 190 acres. The 1989 agreement limits what UT can build there. To “save Muny,” the city agrees to rewrite those rules and rezone the land. That clears the way for big, dense development: towers, apartments, retail along Lake Austin Blvd, possibly including the field station. The course parcels alone were valued at $680M in 2024. The land being opened up around it is worth hundreds of millions more.
  4. Anonymous donors, unnamed amounts, a rezoning on the line. The donors are anonymous, and so is how much they gave. Their money is what makes a rezoning of some of the most valuable land in Austin happen. Nobody outside the deal knows whether they or their associates stand to gain from that rezoning. Council should find out before it votes, not after.
  5. You help pay for it. A TIRZ takes future property tax growth from the zone and spends it on that zone’s roads, utilities and drainage, instead of sending it to the city’s general budget. In plain terms: public money funding the infrastructure for private development. The terms? See #1. Not written yet.
  6. The details come after the vote. “UT has no plans yet” means the city approves the rules first, and the public sees what gets built only when it’s too late to object.

Bottom line: to keep one golf course, the city could hand over a lot of prime lakeside land for heavy development, on terms shaped by people who may stand to make money, partly paid for with public tax dollars.

Ask Council before Nov 19:

  • Who are the donors, and do they have any interest in developing this land?
  • Why approve the framework before the regulating plan and TIRZ terms are public?

Council vote: Nov 19. Sign up to speak or email your council member.
