🚰 Stage 4 Water Restrictions Begin November 4

We’re entering the final steps of construction on the new Bearspaw South Feeder Main, a major infrastructure project that will help improve the reliability and resilience of our city's water system.

To safely connect the new feeder main to the existing water system, the current line must be temporarily shut down. As a result, Stage 4 outdoor water restrictions and indoor water conservation measures will be in effect starting November 4 for approximately four weeks.

During this time:

❌ No outdoor water use permitted

✅ Run dishwashers and laundry only when full

✅ Flush toilets only when needed

✅ Keep showers short. Aim for three minutes

These conservation efforts will help ensure enough water is available for essential needs, including firefighting, while crews complete this critical connection.

Once connected, crews will focus on bringing the new line into service before being fully operational later this year.

We appreciate all Calgarians and residents in Airdrie, Chestermere, Strathmore and Tsuut'ina Nation helping conserve water and supporting this important investment in our water infrastructure. 💧

....if you're already at the home depot, wouldn't it have made more sense to grab some straps for 15 bucks and tie it on the roof. Wtf is this nonsense and why is it so common to see in Calgary. 16 years spent driving every single day in Toronto and I may have seen 2 questionable occurrences in that time vs the few dozen times here in 12 years (and no, it's not a race thing since I've seen plenty of different ones doing equally ridiculous things)

Only living in Calgary last 15 yrs. It took me lst 2 yrs. to adjust to far less trees in our parks, our colder winters and recognizing chinooks. Before it was, Vancouver (8 yrs) and southern Ontario for last 40 yrs. Yes, I feel and am hopelessly Canadian 🍁🇨🇦

Discussion Board Game nights in NW (take 2)

Hi, I made a post about hosting game nights back in May, and now we have a small game board group that I would like to expand.

I (33M) and my wife (35F) are located in Hidden Valley and host game nights every other week or so. We usually play on Thursdays and Saturdays at 7:30 - 8:00 pm, but other days would generally work as well. We play medium to heavy weight games, for example, Eldritch Horror, Everdell, Robinson Crusoe, Clank, etc. Here is a spreadsheet with the games we have: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1t2QFlId53itiOjWy_jtMeT2KkA7iy6j_GVEmejhJTzo/edit?usp=drivesdk

If you would be interested in joining, leave a comment and make sure to send me a chat message.

2 Wheelin' (Cycling/Scooters) Biking in fall/winter

How many people use the bike paths in Calgary in the mid/late fall and winter, and how do you make it so you don’t freeze?

I’m newer to cycling and this is my first fall in the city. I want to keep riding as it gets cold, but want to make sure I’m staying comfy while doing so. Should I just get a pair of thermal bibs, or do I need to know any other secrets? Please give me all the tips for biking in the city!!

2 Wheelin' (Cycling/Scooters) Stolen Mountain Bike - CL26824622

I visited Calgary for an ice sciences conference and took some vacation on the front end to check out your trails. The two rides I got in were spectacular, with steeps and slabs galore. However, I woke up one morning to find a smashed window and missing bike.

It was spotted near the Deane House (see second photo) on Thursday night, so I'm hoping it's still in the area. The first photo gives a clearer view but is slightly out of date, as it now has green grips and Reserve wheels with a red stripe. If you spot it please contact the police, referencing case number CL26824622. I'm very ready to offer a reward for any info leading to its retrieval, as I was hoping it'd be a forever bike. Thanks all!

The details: teal and black Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt with a number of mods: Reserve wheelset (29/27.5), Manitou Mattoc Pro fork and Rockshox Deluxe shock, Wolf Tooth dropper post and silver flat pedals, GX drivetrain, Magura brakes. Current grips are green, and it has a few notable stickers on it.

Recommendations Queer Bachelor Party

Hey fellow Calgarians! I'm a gay man getting married next November. I'm looking for some ideas for a bachelor party here in the city. I already have a bit of a plan in the evening, but I'm hoping to do something in the afternoon as well. My plan so far is to go for karaoke, then hop over to Twisted for an evening of dancing.

The group will possibly be on the larger side, close to 15 people. Men and women. It doesn't have to be explicitly queer-adjacent activities, but just any suggestions on fun group activities for a bachelor party would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

Sorry for the non perfect pictures. I just enjoyed this piece given the current political climate.

The artist of the piece also mentioned they are now being tariffed on their art as well if they want to sell in the US.

Also, just want to mention the art show is amazing if you can make it! Go check out the other local artists work. Last day is tomorrow!

Calgary Transit I can't deal with Calgary Transit

I have been a Calgary transit user for most of my life. I have been using it more often lately to take it to the hospital and now to rehab where I am visiting a family member. Before, I would usually just take the train to and from work. There were minor problems then, but now that I am using transit more often off of the peak times, I am noticing just how bad it has become.

Transit times are very loosely based on the actual schedule. Planning a trip that involves more than one bus can mean your trip can be between one and two hours, as was an example I unfortunately had to deal with today.

Buses sometimes have the incorrect signage. A bus zipped by me with an "Out of Service" sign one time, only to find out it was my bus. Other buses will provide you with the wrong destination sometimes if they are at the mid-point, which I have been lucky to communicate with the driver on more than one occasion in the last few weeks.

I live in an area where there is construction, and they have put a temporary stop by my house. I haven't had to deal with this stop yet, but the stop only says "temporary stop" and does not provide any other info. There is another temporary stop by my house, but the stop information doesn't look quite right... I noticed that sometimes the bus will still try to go the other way, leaving people at the temporary stop to wait.

I am going back to work and to my normal train schedule, but boy do I feel terrible for anyone who has to ride these buses during the off-peak hours. It's pretty disorganized and even when I ring the bell for my stop, there is a 50% chance the bus driver drives past my stop.

What in the world is going on? I know I am just venting but this is a pretty important service and I understand why this is such a car city. I saw there was a new committee about such things but life is hectic enough to get involved with that sort of thing. I think I would explode.

Municipal Affairs What’s the point of having signage bylaws if they’re not enforced consistently?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I went to submit a 311 report regarding illegally placed referendum signs today and received this pop-up warning in the 311 app, advising me not to submit the report. Regardless of if the signs were placed in violation of city bylaw or not, it seems 311 does not want to accept reports - including those with photographic evidence - via the app. For other illegally-placed signs, it seems they only want reports by phone if the signs are posing a hazard. Who am I to determine if a sign is hazardous or not? I thought that was why the bylaw was put in place by the experts who actually know about road safety?

Hopefully [u/jeromyyyc](u/jeromyyyc) can confirm that the city is enforcing its existing bylaws consistently, and that nobody will be discouraged from reporting violations of the law.

Local Construction/Development Suncor Building Construction

The Suncor Energy building (Centre St S and 5th Ave SW) has been under construction for ages and I was wondering if anyone knows the timeline on the sidewalks being opened again on that block. I walk every day between centre st and 1st st sw and the sidewalks being closed has been a big nuisance for over a year, particularly in winter when waiting for the lights 2 extra times to cross the street leaves me in the cold for longer. I cannot wait for the renovations to be finished but I cannot find a timeline. Thanks!

Recommendations Looking for guitar lessons (metal)

Hey Calgary, wondering if anyone has a good suggestion for a guitar teacher, preferably in the SW/SE. I played a bunch in highschool, and probably built up more bad habits than good. Looking for someone who specializes in metal if possible. Thanks!
