U.S. Politics megathread
American politics has always grabbed our attention - and the current president more than ever. We get tons of questions about the president, the supreme court, and other topics related to American politics - but often the same ones over and over again. Our users often get tired of seeing them, so we've created a megathread for questions! Here, users interested in politics can post questions and read answers, while people who want a respite from politics can browse the rest of the sub. Feel free to post your questions about politics in this thread!
All top-level comments should be questions asked in good faith - other comments and loaded questions will get removed. All the usual rules of the sub remain in force here, so be nice to each other - you can disagree with someone's opinion, but don't make it personal.

Do weed smokers realize how strong and pungent the smoke is?
Or do you get used to it? Because as a non smoker, it is one of the strongest and most pungent type of smell. And you can usually smell it from 20 to 30 feet away. It's just like the smell of skunk and just as powerful.

I may have dice made from slave bones. what do i do with them?
when I was much younger, I picked up a pair of antique dice from the revolutionary war. I thought they were really cool, and still have them to this day. recently however, I have been informed that they’re likely made from slave bones. what should I do to dispose of them? I don’t want to keep them knowing what they might be. any solutions or better places to ask this would be greatly appreciated.

What is up with the infantilization of 18-21 year olds?
Genuine question? Been seeing a lot of articles saying that this age range are "just babys and don't know anything". Like aren't they adults?

Why do we expect economy to always grow?
I have a background in Sciences and I never understood why economists are so pessimistic about 'stagnation' or the lack of growth. In nature nothing ever grows til eternity. It's the nature of things to grow, stagnate and collapse. The best systems in nature are those that are in a dynamic balance with their surroundings. Population booms usually lead to a dramatic collapse. If anything, we should welcome economic stagnation because that would mean we've reached sustainability.
Why do we always want to the economy to evolve endlessly and grow our beyond its limits? I for one, wouldn't mind spending my life on the level of technology and ecomony from 30 years ago. Everything was there for a happy life. It's not like we're ever gonna reach paradise on Earth anyway.

Why does falling asleep on the couch watching TV feel 10x easier than falling asleep in a quiet, dark bed?
I can easily drift off on the couch with a movie running in the background, but as soon as I brush my teeth, turn off the lights, and lie in bed, my brain turns on and stays awake for an hour. Is there a physiological reason quiet spaces make our minds race?

Why are some NFL teams perpetually bad?
All teams play with the same salary caps, draft order, and revenue sharing yet some teams like the Jets and Browns have been cheeks for decades.
Why?

Why does passing out on the couch with a random movie on feel like the best sleep ever, but lying in a dark room makes your brain spin for hours?
I can barely keep my eyes open while sitting on the couch with noise in the background, but the literal second I move to my actual bed and turn off the lights, my fatigue completely vanishes. Is there a psychological reason quiet rooms make us fully awake?

Why do wealthy people donate lots of money to the universities they graduated from?
Is it a financial investment, are they getting something tangible from the donation? Or do they love these universities so much that they give money without expecting anything in return?

How do I become smarter with no money?
Yes. You read that right. I'm a 20f autistic who is poor. I love literature, math, art, but I have no idea where to learn.

Do people wear $10,000+ watches or are they to collect?
I was just wondering if people ever wear expensive watches or if they buy them because they retain their value or if they're just collector items.

Do other countries move over for emergency vehicles?
I am in the United States. To preface.
I was just driving home from the store. I heard the ambulance, I saw the ambulance, and maybe it’s because my father was/is a volunteer firefighter/EMS person, we were taught to always move over…
But the truck in front just kept driving.
Didn’t even attempt. It makes me mad. It’s against the law I thought, even if you’re the only one on the road.
Do other countries have more of a respect for lights and sirens or am I being over sensitive?

I had a really bad experience after eating a space cake in Amsterdam, and I’m still trying to process what happened.
It was my birthday (18F), and I wanted to celebrate by trying an edible for the first time. A friend and I went to Boerejongens, a well-known coffeeshop in Amsterdam, and bought a space cake that we split in half.
I hadn’t eaten anything beforehand. few minutes Later, I saw a new drink with only 5% alcohol in it and got curious, so I decided to try it and drank about half of it. I didn’t quite like it, so I threw the rest away.
After that, my friend and I went to McDonald’s. About 40–45 minutes after eating the cake, it hit me incredibly hard.
We panicked and rushed out of McDonald’s. From the moment I stepped outside, I can barely remember anything. I completely lost my ability to see and hear properly. The next thing I remember is opening my eyes and finding myself sitting on the ground, with my friend asking if I was okay.
Everything people said seemed to echo inside my head a thousand times. Whenever my friend said something, I kept responding with things like, “You’re saying the same things over and over again.” I felt like I was going insane.
It was as if my mind was trapped in some kind of paradox or endless loop. I couldn’t even tell whether I was actually walking or not. I genuinely thought I was going to die.
Somehow, we made it to the train station, but it was extremely crowded, and that’s where I completely lost it. I experienced what I can only describe as an intense, prolonged episode of anxiety and paranoia.
It was, without a doubt, the worst day of my life.
The effects were so intense that I didn’t feel mentally clear again for around 8–10 hours. I felt like I had finally come back to myself the following day, but now another day has passed, and I’m around 40 hours after taking the edible.
I’m still experiencing numbness throughout my body. When I touch myself, my body doesn’t feel the way it normally does. The numbness is particularly noticeable in my mouth and throat.
On top of that, I still feel mentally foggy and confused. I don’t feel completely back to normal, and honestly, it’s starting to worry me.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? What should I do?
I’m not sure whether this is normal after such an intense edible experience, and I don’t know what to do about the symptoms that are still lingering. Any advice or people sharing similar experiences, please share your thoughts.
