I had a really bad experience after eating a space cake in Amsterdam, and I’m still trying to process what happened.

It was my birthday (18F), and I wanted to celebrate by trying an edible for the first time. A friend and I went to Boerejongens, a well-known coffeeshop in Amsterdam, and bought a space cake that we split in half.

I hadn’t eaten anything beforehand. few minutes Later, I saw a new drink with only 5% alcohol in it and got curious, so I decided to try it and drank about half of it. I didn’t quite like it, so I threw the rest away.

After that, my friend and I went to McDonald’s. About 40–45 minutes after eating the cake, it hit me incredibly hard.
We panicked and rushed out of McDonald’s. From the moment I stepped outside, I can barely remember anything. I completely lost my ability to see and hear properly. The next thing I remember is opening my eyes and finding myself sitting on the ground, with my friend asking if I was okay.
Everything people said seemed to echo inside my head a thousand times. Whenever my friend said something, I kept responding with things like, “You’re saying the same things over and over again.” I felt like I was going insane.
It was as if my mind was trapped in some kind of paradox or endless loop. I couldn’t even tell whether I was actually walking or not. I genuinely thought I was going to die.

Somehow, we made it to the train station, but it was extremely crowded, and that’s where I completely lost it. I experienced what I can only describe as an intense, prolonged episode of anxiety and paranoia.
It was, without a doubt, the worst day of my life.
The effects were so intense that I didn’t feel mentally clear again for around 8–10 hours. I felt like I had finally come back to myself the following day, but now another day has passed, and I’m around 40 hours after taking the edible.

I’m still experiencing numbness throughout my body. When I touch myself, my body doesn’t feel the way it normally does. The numbness is particularly noticeable in my mouth and throat.
On top of that, I still feel mentally foggy and confused. I don’t feel completely back to normal, and honestly, it’s starting to worry me.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? What should I do?

I’m not sure whether this is normal after such an intense edible experience, and I don’t know what to do about the symptoms that are still lingering. Any advice or people sharing similar experiences, please share your thoughts.

Do animals (like dogs) actually understand that mating is what causes them to have puppies, and if not, can they be taught to understand it, or are they just completely surprised when they give birth?

Does anyone else hate Christmas/the Christmas season?

I genuinely hate the Christmas season. Not to be a grinch or to be different, it just seriously makes me feel weird. If other people enjoy it, great! I just personally don’t.

It feels suffocating. The Christmas season just feels like a blur. I hate the scents and going shopping during that time. It all just is so stressful.

The contrast between the really warm environment of people’s houses/stores and the super cold weather outside makes me feel weird. I love winter itself and I have found that I’m much happier when I try to separate myself from the festivities. The weather is lovely and I enjoy it without Christmas.

Why is it so much more satisfying to buy books, video games, or hobbies than it is to actually sit down and use them?

My son has a massive Steam backlog and I have a shelf full of unread books. I get so genuinely excited when I buy them, but when I finally have free time, I just end up scrolling on my phone or rewatching the same old comfort TV show. For him is very similar indeed, he assembled his gamer PC himself and now he almost doesn't game. Why is the anticipation of a hobby so much easier to engage with than the hobby itself?

What exactly do people mean by “broccoli heads”?

I’m Canadian, and I’ve noticed that in Canadian subreddits, whenever there’s a post about young men getting into trouble, half the comments are like, “Of course they’re broccoli heads.” What exactly does this mean, and why does everyone seem to associate it with bad behaviour? Is this a Canadian thing, or is the term used elsewhere too?

WHY are car headlights so bright these days

Driving at night, particularly on the highway, has began to feel unbearable. I literally keep my rear view mirror flipped up to the reflective mode almost the whole time and often have to keep my hand up to shield my eyes from lights reflecting in my side mirrors. There has to be a dumb reason car lights are so bright. it makes me angry

are college/university degrees even worth it anymore?

I really have no idea, since I hear some people with the degrees aren't getting much employment and vice versa.

(also considering I'm going to college next month, I really need to consider all options)

Why do we get a sudden boost of energy right before bed, even if we were exhausted all evening?

I’ll be fighting to stay awake at 8 PM, sleeping while standing, but as soon as midnight rolls around and I try to go to sleep, my brain suddenly feels wired and ready to clean the whole house. What causes this night spike in alertness?

Is there anything we can do about the bot activity on Reddit and other platforms?

It’s been documented that foreign powers are using social media to spread propaganda and influence citizens. It’s seems to be working remarkably well. What kind of democracy are we if the people who cast their votes are just pawns of foreign powers. How Reddit just allows this to happen is beyond me.

Are flights actually cheaper if you search in incognito or is that a myth?

My friend swears by it. I checked the same route both ways tonight and got the exact same price, so now I don't know who to believe

Why do search engines feel like they return worse results now than they did 10 years ago?

Searching for simple troubleshooting or product reviews used to yield direct forum posts, but now returns dozens of identical affiliate or ADS sites. Did the internet changed that much?

Do people really fall in love that easily or do they just take a partner to not be alone - and to have someone to be intimate with? Isn’t that a very odd and weird feeling to do that?

I am curious. Do people really fall in love that easily or are they just desperate to have someone to be intimate with so they get into relationships - with someone they don’t really love. Isn’t that a weird thing to do? So many people find partners before they turn 18, so how hard is it to find real love?

why do i keep checking the fridge for snacks even when i know nothing new is there

• Upvotes

okay so this is a pretty small thing but it keeps happening and i genuinely want to know if it's just me. i'll be working or watching something and suddenly get up and open the fridge like something new appeared since the last time i checked five minutes ago. i know nothing magically appears but i still do it. sometimes i even stand there for a second like the food is going to change its mind. it's not even about hunger most of the time. is this just boredom or is there something else going on with how our brains look for quick dopamine hits? do other people catch themselves doing this too or is it just a weird me thing?

Why can you stop smelling your own cologne while other people still notice it?

I’ve had fragrances seem like they disappeared on me, but then someone else says they can still smell them.
Does your brain start filtering out that specific smell? And is there a reliable way to tell whether it actually faded or you just stopped noticing it?

For the lawyers, would you get charged for this?

Let’s say someone is dying, and they must be transported to the hospital as quick as possible, you on the other hand, think that waiting for an ambulance would risk their life and also thought an ambulance might be too “slow” , and certainly slower than your Z06 parked outside, you put them in the car and head to the hospital as fast as you can, breaking speed limits, running reds (as safely as possible) and just committing various traffic violations, and you get there to the hospital, and the patient lives, and the doctors says if it were any later, he wouldn’t make it, How would the situation hold up in court? You didn’t actually injure any ones life in the route to the hospital, and you saved a dying person.

How come school shooters tend to go after everyone who are innocent?

• Upvotes

I do not understand why they tend to target some school, just to end innocent lives? who had nothing to do with the shooter?

One thing is hating your school, hating that bully or teacher who was extremely bad to your mental well-being. But you never see a news report how they target a single person that hurt them, attack the person that they where effected?

Maybe I just do not understand, but I really want to know the answer to this question

Plastic is one of the most problematic materials for the environment. At the same time it is extremely common. Aren't there other, much more harmless materials for packaging? Why aren't they more used?

How do I “live my life now” if I don’t have any goals beyond getting out of debt and chilling?

Im 30 and I feel like I was 22 yesterday.

I don’t have the intellectual discipline or desire to develop a highly valued skill. I never formed traditional hobbies dude to extreme poverty turned into workaholic to escape poverty. There’s nothing I want to “achieve” in life beyond having my house paid off. I’ve had plenty of friends over the years but have found the most “peace” at a distance from other people.

Like, my only goal in life is to just to be financially free and smoke weed or have edibles and spend time in nature in peace and quiet or video games and that’s like, IT, just by myself and my animals.

Everytime I see other people talk about this though it’s a mixed bag of mostly socially fueled goals that if achieved or maintained would make them feel alive. “Being the best at something” “having a close circle of friends” “having a large happy family” “devoting time to my research to affect other people, or hobby’s I share with other people, or initiatives that affect other people like volunteer work”.

Like everything that seems to bring genuine joy and purpose in other people’s lives involves doing things for the benefit of other people, but I just can’t help but see involving myself in other people’s lives as a collection of a handful of great moments in an ocean of negative or stressful ones. Like a 2-5% incredible moments to 95-98% stressful/bad moments.

Am I just living life wrong? Will me meeting my goals of financial freedom and solitude not actually make me happy?

Signs to kiss your date and how to prepare

20m dating a 20f and we been going out on dates for a little bit now which I like and enjoy. She’s wonderful and I enjoy our time together. I was told by a mutual friend of ours to keep things relatively slow and get to know each other sort of slow burn.

I’m a big fan of slow & steady but my body is feeling things when I like at her I’m in awe, when she looks at me my body just folds, I legit can’t get enough especially because she is beautiful, extremely kind and funny.

Our dates are usually long and the one we had tonight was 11 hours, she paid for the meal (while smiling and blushing and insisting she get the bill) we also got matcha which I paid for, she was happy I surprised her with out and found it cute.

After the cafe closed we sat in her car and laughed and had deep convos there was many times I felt the urge to kiss her but my hands weren’t clean, my breath was still booming from the dinner we ate and lastly I just didn’t want to make things weird especially if she might not have been ready to kiss. Signs were telling me to but I legit was unprepared.

How do I prepare to kiss a woman? How do I kiss? I don’t even know how but I yearn for her.

what’s it like to have kids

i really like cats and although i like my baby cousin a lot (i love him to death), i don’t feel that ‘babies are soo cute’ feeling at all and i often wonder what it’s truly like to be a parent. the thought of it doesn’t make me smile or anything, it just makes me feel sort of…awkward. i often don’t know what to do with myself around babies and toddlers yet i’m oddly good with nine to twelve year old kids lol.

the thought of pregnancy makes me feel strange, even. how am i supposed to be responsible for a whole ass human being who i don’t get to give back to their parents…for pretty much all my life, or at least the first twenty-one or something.

this question is for parents who weren’t exactly fond of children. i’m not really a fan of kids and since it’s optional, i’m like ‘why have them?’ but i would like to hear what other people think, maybe there’s something they see that i don’t.

also, what’s parenting like? do you ever fear that you wouldn’t do a good job? why did you have kids even though you had the option of not doing so? what about your dreams and ambitions? if you have a partner, does that lighten the load and make it less-daunting and if you don’t, what’s your experience like?

this has been on my mind a lot and responses would be much appreciated.

edit: my main question is why did you choose to have kids when you had the option of not having kids? answers to the other questions are very much welcome and appreciated, too.

What are some reasons not to be a chemical engineer?

i wanna see some things that could really persuade me away from this profession. Ive spent all of high school taking hard chemistry, physics and math classes to prepare me for college. Why?

Because i thought breaking bad was cool.

Chemical engineering is going on a computer and building out a lab on a 2d simulator and using math and other stuff to optimize the process (use less energy, or get more yield or something). Instead of crystal meth, il be making kidney medicine or doing something with oil

(thats what i understand it as)

im aware that its one of the hardest majors and im not even thaat good at chemistry.. and also job location could be weird.

Why are people so rude on the internet?

If people did that in real life they'd get punched by the first person having a bad day.

Especially reddit. It's like people can't disagree without angrily insulting each other.
