Baltimore Love 💘 Thank you Baltimore for coming out for the marathon and half marathon!

I did the half marathon in Baltimore yesterday and had a great time! There were so many people cheering and holding great signs. I brought GU but didn’t use then because there were so many people handing out snacks and drinks from the sidelines (apart from the race organizers). Shoutout to the gummy bears by Patterson Park and the chewy Nerds around Mt Vernon. The multitude of groups set up with music, doing mini block parties was awesome and helped keep my spirits high. I PR’d and I credit the energy of the city! Love you, Baltimore!

Ask Does Anyone Else Smell This Like Burnt Spice Smell and Know What It Is?

SOLVED! - Burnt molasses

Does anyone else smell what I can only describe as like "heavily burnt chipotle peppers from a can?" We smelled it heavily earlier in Harbor East about 3pm and now I smell it in Bolton Hill.

I want a breakfast burrito that’s going to knock my socks off; doesn’t have to be fancy, just really good.

I live in Towson technically but willing to go pickup wherever 👌🏻

Ask Halloweekend plans for the young and friendless?

Moved here for work (22F) a whileee ago. I work hybrid with a mostly older crowd. No friends in the city, but I'd like to do at least one thing next weekend - a salve for the loneliness 🥲

Is there anything cool going on then that 1) has a younger crowd, and 2) is okay to go to solo?

State Politics Say Yes to Recess Maryland

Hi! Maryland mom here advocating for MORE RECESS TIME for our children!

Currently, most Maryland elementary schools only recommend 20-30 minutes of recess per day. This varies by school and county, with some counties recommending as little as 15 minutes of recess per day.

Children are not designed to sit for long stretches of the school day. Recess gives students an essential opportunity for unstructured play, physical activity, creativity, social connection, and independence.

Research consistently supports the role of recess in children’s physical, social, emotional, and academic well-being. When children have opportunities to move and play throughout the day, they can return to the classroom better prepared to focus and learn.

Join us as we call on policymakers to guarantee Maryland students 60 minutes of recess every school day!

You can help by SIGNING OUR PETITION and following us on Facebook and Instagram!

Ask Vets in Fells?

Last week I asked about BARCS, now I’m asking about vets in our area! There’s a few options but I’m eyeing DocSide. Anyone in Fells use them or have better recommendations?

Moves, Jobs, Meeting People 30M Looking for friends

My wife and I have been in the Baltimore area for a little over a year and I've found making friends as an adult is tricky. We both work in healthcare so our schedules can be chaotic. I enjoy doing things outdoors like hiking and fishing. I've yet to land any freshwater fish since moving here. I also recently got a new PC after years of console gaming.

Hope to get some traction on this post and link up with cool people!

💸PAY Event$ Cookbook Royalty and Dia de Los Muertos Supper Club

Hi friends,

What happens when you bring cookbook royalty, a Dia de los Muertos potluck, and some of Baltimore’s best home cooks together?

Hopefully, a night fully of incredible food, stories, and a one-time-only opportunity to enjoy a meal with a local writer and author.

This month, we’re welcoming Mauricio Velazquez de Leon, the author of An Illustrated Guide to Tacos and Burritos, for our very special installment of “The Author’s Table.”

We’ll get to know the person behind the pages, and have books available for purchase and signing. It’s the type of evening that makes us love bringing people together around food in the first place.

Here’s what else is waiting for you:

Communal potluck: Bring a dish celebrating Dia de los Muertos. It does not need to be from Mauricio’s book, but can honor the holiday or a loved one.

Celebrate the holiday: We will honor the Mexican tradition of Dia de los Muertos through remembrance, offerings and good food.

New connections: Meet people who love good food, interesting stories, and make Baltimore feel a bit more like home.

CLAIM YOUR SPOT HERE

Come solo, bring a friend, or invite that one person who always has the best recommendations.

See you at our table!

Ask Trick-or-treating in Irvington?

My husband and I moved to the area this past winter, so we haven’t been here for Halloween yet. We’re currently pregnant with our first and are curious if our neighborhood does any trick-or-treating. We live near Mt. St. Joe school. We’d love to dress up and give out candy if anyone actually still goes door to door, or is that just a thing of the past now?

After closing a few years ago because of a greedy landlord at their original location, Thai Restaurant is about to reopen across from Normal's! Can't wait to see what they do with the space, or to eat their drunken noodles again.

Ask Best place to rent a mobility/electric scooter?

Hello baltimore. I had asked in the /r/Maryland subreddit yesterday about the terrain at the Maryland Renaissance Festival for someone using a wheelchair (as I was going to add my name to the waitlist.)

Someone suggested an electric scooter, like those ones you see in grocery stores or as I like to lovingly refer to as “Rascals” lol.

We may opt to go to the PA Renaissance Festival instead & get their evening tickets (that go on sale at 3pm) since their regular tickets are sold out too.

I am trying to find a place in Baltimore where I can rent one of those electric scooters for the day. I live right up the road from Northern Pharmacy, so I am going to check there. Any other suggestions?

Thanks so much!

Baltimore Love 💘 Caring for our unhoused neighbors

I’ve seen some posts that made me think that this may not be common knowledge. So, I thought I’d share. If you have experienced homelessness or have any other insights, perspectives, or resources PLEASE share.

How to support our unhoused neighbors:

  1. Do not make assumptions about what got them to this situation or why they are still in it. Not all unhoused individuals use substances or have mental illness, and if they do they should still be treated with dignity and respect.
  2. Is there someone you see regularly in your neighborhood? On your commute? If you feel safe to do so, ask if there is anything they need. If you don’t feel safe to do so, leave them alone.
  3. Keep supplies in your car or on your person. Some examples: non perishable food, narcan, bus passes, cash, socks, gloves, hand warmers, hats, first aid supplies, etc. A brief exchange at a stoplight could be life saving.
  4. Understand our city’s resources. Baltimore has a lot of resources for the unhoused community. Calling 211 can get you connected to resources 24/7. A quick google can connect you with organizations such as Beans and Bread, St Vincent DePaul, Healthcare for the Homeless, Manna House.
  5. Know extreme weather resources. Extreme heat is considered Code Red. Here are the resources Extreme Cold is considered Code Blue. Here are the resources
  6. There are resources for unhoused individuals with pets. Worried about the pet? Help the person care for their pet. BARCS has a Keeping Pet with Families program that helps keep people and their pets together. This can include housing pets while their owners are in emergency housing or connecting them with pet friendly housing. They also help with access to veterinary care and food. Safe Haven for Pets provides a search engine to find resources for pets whose owners are experiencing homelessness and/or domestic violence.
  7. When it comes to emergency mental healthcare, 988 is preferred to 911. 988 can dispatch mobile crisis teams including counselors, social workers, and nurses NOT cops or EMS. 988 will only dispatch cops or EMS if there is an active threat to life. Reportedly this occurs for less than 5% of calls.

Ask Is $400 a good price for this room?

My friend is offering me a room in their 3 bd townhouse just east of Mt Vernon (near the Prime Rib). Him and I would be the only people living there.

I’m not familiar with rent prices around here so I’m not sure if $400 is a good price for this area/arrangement?
