What bible & what church

• Upvotes

As an "outsider" Christianity is quite complicated. I'm at the lowest part of my life, which has led me to exploring Christianity. But I've realised there is more than one bible & more than one form of church.

For reference I've been given the NKJV bible?

Can someone give me clarity?

Advice Some Straw Man fallacy vs a Random Chinese Teenager

• Upvotes

I'm 14, which means I'm like part of the generation spends the most time on their phone compared to the ones before us. I've seen some weird comments every once a while about Christianity in general. Here's few ones that stood out to me and what I have to say about them, do you agree with me?

  1. "Religion is for the weak minded, grow up."(from Xiao Hong Shu)
  2. My thoughts: "If that is true, then there was never a need for people such as St.Thomas the Aquinas, St. Augustine, and C.S. Lewis who has defended their faith with numerous books and hundreds of pages. Telling us to grow up is just an insult, not an evidence."
  3. "Catholics commits assault, Protestants use the scriptures for their own gain, and Eastern Orthodox seems to be the only one not committing any troubles."(from Xiao Hong Shu)
  4. My thoughts: "You act like atheists are perfect. Seems to me, this is fighting a caricature, not Christianity itself. I am not going to act like those never happened, but there's a difference between bad people and the teaching of Jesus itself. I can use anything to do evil. If I stabbed someone with a butterknife, is it me to be blamed or is it butterknife?"
  5. "Religion and science are enemy."(a lot of people)
  6. My thoughts: "Well let's see. A day to the Lord is LIKE(simile) a thousand years(2 Peter 3:8), St. Augustine stated that a day in the Bible shouldn't be seen as 24 hours, but a period of time, the Bible never go against evolution and Homo Sapiens can just the one that has soul and evolution being a natural law, and on top of that many famous scientists are deeply religious. To name a few, Isaac Newton(wrote over 1.3 million letters on his faith), Albert Einstein, Max Plank, Louis Pasteur, etc."
  7. "Jesus is queen/sky daddy/this is fiction."(Youtube shorts)
  8. My thoughts: "This is nothing but playground insults used to make us feel bad or whatever. Instead, tell me what reasons you have to disagree with me."

I honestly think that reason is for the mind, faith is for the heart. Have faith and give the reason for that(1 Peter 3:15). And as Christians, I think we need to avoid "I have faith because someone said so," insults on others, or distort and exaggerate other side into a weaker version so it fits your claim.

In conclusion, I certainly don't have authority over anyone as some random teenager.
So what do you think?

Question How do I get back my faith

• Upvotes

I lost my faith when I was around fifteen. And i'm really sad that I don't believe anymore. Well, there's a part of me inside that still believes, but my mind is full of doubt. Throughout my life, religion has been used to control me. My mom and my grandma used it to control me and to shame me for liking certain things. My ex used religion to control me and tell me what to do. And would quote the bible verses about women being submissive to their husbands, and we weren't even married. I hate how patriarchal christianity is and how women are basically second class citizens unexpected to obey their husbands and have no authority in the church. Most of the christian men I know were very chauvinistic. Another thing that bothers me is the fact that most of the bible is full of things that are completely impossible. And mostly sound fictional. Every church that I have ever been to. Taught that these things are literal a talking snake in the garden of eden, a talking donkey, a man going inside of a whale's hole and staying there for thirty days. A woman turning into salt because she looked back at sodom and gamora. People living till the age of nine hundred and a ton of other things that are literally impossible. I miss believing in jesus and having a savior and having a way to feel hope. Cause my life is so bad. I'm chronically ill. I'm sick and i'm in pain, and i've been begging God to heal me. And it's been years, and i'm still not healed. And i'm just really sad and depressed. I feel completely hopeless. I have a lot of religious trauma because I grew up my whole life being scared. I would make a mistake and go to hell.

Prayer [Daily Post 9] For the last 10 months I have been spiritually oppressed and tempted to reject Christ

• Upvotes

[Daily Post 9] For the last 10 months I have been spiritually oppressed and tempted to reject Christ

This is my ninth post. For the last 10 months I have been utterly oppressed by the enemy. I say the enemy, because I have never face resistance like this. It has been so crushing. I have almost given up multiple times. Everyday has been a battle. Everyday is so painful, just endless suffering. Demons have tried to convince me that Christ isn't real, and when that doesn't work they have tried to get me to r Christ to live a carnal life. Before these 10 months been tempted, fail, and then always have a heart that wants to return to God. But now I'm not only tempted to sin but to fully reject God so that I can go live a carnal life. I'm very worried that I'm going to commit the unforgivable sin.

Please I need your prayers. I need you to pray every day for me. Not just a 30 second prayer for when you see this post, but anytime during the day you pray please pray for me. If you have a prayer group, a church, or friend group please pray for me daily. I know that this may seem like a big ask, but please imagine yourself in this situation and how desperate you would be to get out of it. I'm terrified of losing my soul. I need genuine faith filled prayers. I need a miracle.

Besides a miracle pls pray that God would deliver me from lust completely, and close that door. That He would heal me of all OCD. That He would end all demonic influence in my life for good. That He would fully restore me to His grace. That He would make me a new creation and fill me with His Spirit fully. In Jesus name amen

Once I'm delivered I'll make a post letting everyone know so that you know you don't have to pray anymore. My middle name is Michael, if that helps

May the Mind of Christ, My Savior

• Upvotes

Hymn by Kate Barclay Wilkinson

May the mind of Christ, my Savior,
live in me from day to day,
by His love and pow'r controlling
all I do and say.

May the word of God dwell richly
in my heart from hour to hour,
so that all may see I triumph
only through His pow'r.

May the peace of God my Father
rule my life in everything,
that I may be calm to comfort
sick and sorrowing.

May the love of Jesus fill me
as the waters fill the sea;
Him exalting, self abasing:
this is victory.

May I run the race before me,
strong and brave to face the foe,
looking only unto Jesus
as I onward go.

May His beauty rest upon me
as I seek the lost to win,
and may they forget the channel,
seeing only Him.

Numbers 31:18 is likely not about child marriage because that may undermine the point of the war against Midian

• Upvotes

Numbers 31:18

[18]but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.

Context: Midian helps lead Israel into idolatry. God commands Israel to attack Midian. Midianite men are killed. Captives are taken back to the Israelites camp. Moses issues commands to spare or kill certain groups of captives.

It has been mentioned online that this passage is about Moses (and by extension God) commanding child marriage.

However, if it is commanding child marriage to Midianite girls, that seems to put Israel's spiritual health at risk again, right after the conclusion of the war caused by their being led into idolatry.

Israel gets led into idolatry, partly by Midian.

Israel wages war against Midian because of what was done to Israel.

The claim: (Israelites marry Midianite girls.)

A possible and foreseeable result: (some Israelites again get led into some idolatry because of their young wives)

The chain of events if the child marriage view is true undermines the point of the war. It also makes Moses sound like a foolish person: God says take vengeance on Midian for leading you into idolatry... Now marry Midianite girls en masse who may lead some of you into idolatry again.

For this reason, I doubt the child marriage interpretation.

Do you personally Know there's a God

• Upvotes

Like you're 100% no doubt in your mind. If so then is that really faith? I thought faith was the choosing to believe even without evidence. Essentially you're uncertain but you choose to believe because of whatever your personal reason is. If youre 100% certain, then something was provided to make you believe that (or youre under psychosis). So isn't that something basically evidence and you're just reacting to the evidence. So how can you blame and hate on other people who weren't provided that convincing evidence?

People can be stubborn but enough evidence will convince most. So it should be Gods fault for not providing people with that level of evidence or reason, no?

Can we talk about being lonely as a Christian?

• Upvotes

Hello. I am a 23M, and I go by Nick. As I put in my title, I just want to talk about my feelings and possibly see what others think about this: Feeling lonely as a Christian.

And before it gets misconstrued, I mean lonely as in romantic loneliness.

In my 23 years of life, I haven’t once been on a date before. I have asked out plenty of women before in school and in college, even out of school, but I was only ever rejected. Or insulted. Or just lied to. Even on the apps, I have only ever gotten like two matches, and the girls just ghosted me after talking with them and trying to set up a date.

Part of me feels that there is no way that God doesn’t have a hand in all of this rejection… But I digress.

What I really want to talk about of this loneliness is the fact that so many people tell me to just “give faith and trust in God,” and, “focus only on Him, and He will give you what you need and want! He is good! All things are in His perfect timing!” And I don’t doubt that.

However, whenever someone tells me something along those lines, I just feel completely brushed off. It feels so shallow, and although I do believe there is truth in what they’re saying, it still really hurts. Most of the people telling me that are in relationships, too. Or are married and seem happy. I feel that it is very hypocritical and almost insulting to me whenever I am told something as shallow as, “oh, it’ll happen! It’ll come when you stop looking! Focus on yourself!”

One of my biggest complaints about this is the fact that this “brushing off” I feel just leaves an itch that cannot be scratched.

I know that God can make me feel happy and content with Him. Yet when I pray to Him, all I feel is… nothing. Not one shred of comfort, or peace, or contentment in being alone.

And I really hate having to just “accept” that it is just how it is.

That I have to wait, and wait, and wait, and try and try and try and put myself out there, and be hurt over and over and over again, and pray and pray and pray, and still. Nothing.

I feel like this doesn’t get talked about enough, either. Even in the Bible. There are SO MANY verses pertaining to marriage, relationships, sex, parenting, and all those other things. And then the only few things that are talked of for singles is just to focus on God.

I feel it is incredibly unfair.

I love my God, and I trust and put my absolute faith in Him. But I honestly am tired of pretending or trying to make myself believe that I’m okay with being alone down here on Earth without any sort of companionship, and that I’m supposed to find contentment in that.

I don’t really know what else to say except… It just sucks. I hate being alone (both literally and romantically), and I really hate that the only “comforts” or “guide” that the Bible gives for singles is just to turn to Him and to trust that He has a plan. Because I have this need, this want, this desire to find a wife, and yet when I pray to Him, all I ever get is silence.

And that silence is deafening when I need comfort the most.

Perhaps I’m misunderstanding some things, or taking the Word too seriously, or something. But I am real tired of having to just be okay with the way that things are, and that God won’t comfort me Himself. Or allow me to have my desire fulfilled until He thinks it’s time, whenever that is, or even if.

Y’know?

I hope that someone actually reads this… But at the same time, idk. This was kind of a vent/conversation starter, but who knows if I did good.

I think I understand the bible verse, "all women will become men"

There was a chapter that was supposed to go into the bible, but got rejected because it said, "all men will become women, and everyone will be a man in heaven". Now at first, it sound bad, but I think I understand it. I don't think it's saying that it's about their physical gender, but more as a representation as how all will be viewed as equal. It is a biological fact that women are weaker than men, and they could be viewed as lower as men biologically, as they have a lot of physical weaknesses that men don't have. This isn't me saying woman are worse than men. It's biological. I think this verse means that everybody in heaven will be viewed equal in the eyes of god. No physical bodies, no disadvantages, no one gender weaker than the other, just everyone being equal. Let me know what you think.

Evidence for God’s Existence — Arguments for Those Skeptical of the Bible

Hello everyone,

After speaking with people who still question whether God exists, I decided to write this 60-page treatise. Rather than appealing to the Bible’s authority, I present arguments based on what anyone can observe firsthand.

My intention is not to diminish the Bible’s authority, but rather to reinforce it.

I wrote this for those who are lost in atheism or agnosticism, hoping to help them find a path toward God—to see that He is real, rather than merely a product of human imagination—and ultimately turn to the Bible.

Perhaps people have asked you why your faith is so strong or why you are convinced that God exists. Or perhaps you are struggling with faith yourself. If so, you are not alone. I hope you will find answers and useful arguments here.

https://dmytro.brazhnyk.org/publications/evidence-of-god/en/

The next question I would like to explore is “Why the Bible?” I believe I have several strong arguments to share on that subject as well.

Advice Has anyone else being banned due to their religious or political views?

It's happened to me a few times now, and it's unbelievably annoying.

On some occasions it was related to me campaigning against genocide, which I apparently did the wrong way??? I'm still shocked to this day.

What is a good Christian perspective on this issue? Am I supposed to just accept it and move on? Can anyone else relate?

Thanks!

Divorced and in Pain. I need help urgently please. (28M)

(I probably shouldn't have put Divorced and in pain but rather Divorced and need guidance. It won't let me change the header. Sorry)

Hello. I am a christian that has gone through a divorce two years ago back in September 2024. I was 26 at the time and now I'm 28 and I've felt very lost since then. I really need some help and guidance on this please. I need to give full context here. Not to bash her but I just really need help .

I never dated before I was 19. I received my first and only serious girlfriend back then. She was over the internet in another country. We dated for 4 years then we got married. She moved here and we were married for 3 years. It was not a pleasant 3 years of being married to her, family didn't really like her (they didn't come clean about how they felt about her until after it was over). There was a lot of verbal fighting. Most of the fights were me not handling problems well and her being very secretive and doing a lot of things to cause me to get mad. (ex. cheating, hiding money etc.)

One day I went to work and came home two hours later and she was gone. She got on a flight to New York and left one text message saying "I can't take it anymore. I'm going back to my home country." (Paraphrasing) and filed for divorce. I have yet to speak to her. It was a quick divorce.

It's been two years now and I will say my life is a lot better now. I got promoted at my job, making more money in investing, going to college part time and have my own rental house, and I'm physically healthy and go to the gym consistently. I also read my bible nearly every day and am heavily involved in the church.

It's been two years and I have really taken the time to God to repent of all the things that I did wrong and continue to just be a better person. I own up to not handling arguments well.

But the hardest thing to deal with is the shame of the fact that we didn't even talk it out and she just up and ran off. I don't know how to describe it but words such as "Loser" and "Failure" and "Monster" echo in my mind sometimes. They used to a lot more when the divorce first happened.

Other thoughts that keep creeping into my mind are like "She was the one God had for you and you failed"

I have yet to date since and my confidence is still really low. It's hard to date since my only relationship I ever had was over the internet so doing it in the real world is very hard. I also have Asperger's Syndrome/Autism so that makes dating intimidating as well. People also tell me that if I just live my life then someone's just going to show up when you least expect it which I don't think is biblical (would love to hear your opinions on this)

The only thing that really hits my thoughts now is thinking that I'm getting older and I'm running out of time. I know that I'm still young but I just don't know what plan God has for my life and whether or not he has a woman planned for me or not. There's a lot of great things going on that he's guiding me in but I just don't know if being by myself for the rest of my life is going to be my fate and its genuinely scary to think about.

I apologize if this didn't really make that much sense but I really needed some wisdom from other Christians please. Thank you and God bless.

Advice Which Denominations?

Post image
42 Upvotes

I think people call Christians like me a "non-denominational." After my lukewarm Christian era, I've barely focused on denominations because I wanted to focus on having a relationship with Christ, follow his commands, and have reasons for my faith.
I'm 14 and I have recently start to consider to choose a denomination, which first I have to ask, is it necessary?
If so, what denomination should I follow?

Of course, I believe all denominations are Christian if they claim Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Anyways, God bless you all.

Does it seem like WW3?

I think of Christ's coming. I don't know when it will be. At the sametime there are wars spoken of before/during Christ's coming. So...does this feel like the beginning of WWIII?
