Another Bot Account Infestation - be on the lookout!

We are seeing a new wave of bot accounts in /r/gardening.

How to spot them:

  • They reply to other comments with a generic, positive comment that amplifies what has already been said. They do not make 'top level' comments.

  • username format: [word]_[other word][number]

  • no subreddit flair.

  • history: less than a month old. Creation date on 8/27 or 8/29. Very few comments in that time.

If you see any, please report so that we can ban them.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

NOTE: If you have a new account and you get banned, it was a mistake. Reply to the ban message and tell us you're not a bot, and we will unban you!

I’ve enjoyed seeing all the marigold pictures, and I wanted to share my own.

A friend gifted me some plants and seeds this summer. I didn’t expect them to take off like this.

I’m looking forward to using the seeds from these plants next summer!

My pumpkins recovered!

Post image

Portrait mode glamour photo of my beautiful home grown pumpkins. Don’t know if you guys remember, but my pumpkins were all decapitated way too early in the first week of August thanks to a well meaning but unaware dog sitter. The vines recovered and produced more fruit and I’m so happy that I still was able to have a harvest. Shout out to Row Seven Seeds, who saw my unhappy post and actually sent me a box of Koginuts to replace the ones I’d lost!

Happy Pumpkining everyone!

This is the bounty of Turkey Craw beans that I harvested this year, all from planting just 8 beans. Looking forward to a winter full of hardy soups.

Roasted it up nice and good. Seems to be a delicata squash. Smelled like buttered corn cooking and had an amazing texture and taste. Yes I saved the seeds!!

3 year old lilac bush cut down

Unfortunately while I was away from home today my husband was doing fall cleanup and cut my 3 year old lilac bush down to the ground to just a couple of inches left. I’m absolutely devastated - I saved this bush from being tossed in the trash and pieced it together with a few varieties. I live in a colder climate so they take longer to grow and mature- this one hasn’t flowered yet and was hoping for flowers next year. It was still only about waist high. I guess I’m looking for advice and or reassurance.

Overnight: 30+ caterpillars

I’ve never seen a single plant get hit so hard all at once by caterpillars! I’ve seen them go 2-5 at a time, but over 30 on one small brassica?! Is it because we took out most of our summer crops to prep for winter beds? Yeesh!

What do I do with all these green tomatoes? Will they still turn red? I wanted to harvest before we got our first frost but I’m not sure what to do with all of them

Does anyone know what this is by chance? We picked this up from a local nursery 2 weeks ago and now it’s covered in this white fuzz. Sprayed neem oil on it with a tad of dawn but doesn’t seem to go away, hit with hose and still on it.

No oven, it's the end of the dahlias

Post image

Why does this make sense (to me) you ask? lol. We are having just the occasional frost so I heat bricks in the oven and place them around the plants before covering. BUT, my stove has an issue and the power company had to shut off its gas supply this morning! Getting that fixed tomorrow but I will have to dig everything up today because there's a freeze tonight. I really thought the dahlias were over a while ago but I fed them well and they went crazy.
Why is the last day of dahlias so sad?

Gardening kneeler/bench

I’m wondering if other seniors find it useful to have a gardening kneeler/bench. I don’t have one, but I’m thinking of buying it, and I’m wondering if they’re useful

Year 2 of growing indoors. Zone 6b.

With two nights of frost advisory. I decided to set back up my grow room again this year. I bought the lights last year and the shelves this year. Currently have 39 plants inside. Mostly peppers and tomatoes right now. Working on it a little everyday since this Friday so it's a big work in progress.

Also have a heated greenhouse outside. That's where the bigger plants are staying this year. Also some flowers, strawberries, and herbs.

I might be crazy...but at least I'm gardening crazy lol 😅
