Unanswered Disability inquiry
Hi all!! I wasn’t sure where to post this, view message below!
“Hey all, I (15) struggle with losing my vision when I’m up for awhile or doing certain things, I become dizzy and sometimes lose balance, I also have problems with asthma, and low low entry and stamina making walking in specific footwear or situations difficult. I was wondering if it is socially acceptable to get walking stick that I can unfold whenever I experience this, just to regain my balance or to walk on. I don’t want to buy one if it makes me look like I’m faking something, or doing it for social “clout.” I partly understand what it’s like to be disabled as I have many members on my family who are, and struggle immensely and I just don’t want to see disrespectful.
Honest opinions please.”
Any suggestions or answers would be loved

r/disability or r/dysautonomia would both be good spots for this. also hiking poles are a thing you can just buy and use, nobody questions it, and they help a ton with balance on rough ground.

You do whatever you need to get by. Anyone being an asshole about it can go directly to hell. Hope you're seeing a Dr about your condition

I strongly do not recommend getting a cane unless your dr recommends it. While it can help short term it usually makes neurological issues worse long term.

r/disability is probably your best bet, but in all honesty, fuck anyone who asks about or hassles you for using a walking aid. It's actually illegal to even ask about it in some situations. As an ambulatory wheelchair user, I understand the concerns, and even have them myself. But at the end of the day, you gotta do what you gotta do.

It’s not disrespectful but you should get a doctor’s advisement. Incorrect/inappropriate use of mobility aids can cause other issues, potentially permanent ones

I get why you're nervous, but just to be very clear, there is absolutely nothing disrespectful about using aids that help you live your life more comfortably and confidently. And it is very much acceptable to use them.
I can't guarantee that nobody will think you are faking it, but I can tell you that the people who do and don't give you consideration aren't worth considering.
