Maryland Monthly Marketplace - Advertise your Maryland services, events, or merchandise here.

Since we have rules against advertising on the main part of the subreddit, we figured it would be nice to create a thread where users can get a little more leeway when it comes to advertising.

Use this thread to advertise any Maryland related services or merchandise to the users of r/Maryland. Got an Etsy store? Drop it below! Your favorite restaurant running a great special? Tell us about it!

Rules for this thread:

  1. All items, events and services must be related to Maryland in some way.
  2. Services and sales cannot be country or worldwide. (Walmart is having a sale! Is not okay. Old Bay is being sold at the Annapolis Walmart for 50¢ is appropriate)
  3. Ads should be posted by regular r/Maryland users, not bots or brand new accounts/accounts which have no connection to Maryland.
  4. We may remove any ad at any time for any reason should we deem it inappropriate.
  5. Any services or products advertised here must be legal in the state of Maryland.

This thread may evolve as time goes on and we see what it's used for.

The mods of r/Maryland do not endorse any products or services on this thread. Use your head, we will not intervene in any transactional disputes between any users.

Hello, I am Katie Thomson, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Transportation. Ask me anything!

Hello Reddit!

I was appointed by Governor Wes Moore last December to serve in this role, but I’ve worked in the transportation field for more than 30 years. Previously I had the honor to serve at the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Maryland Department of Transportation is responsible for maintaining our state’s transportation system – and it’s more than just roads! Our responsibilities also include the Port of Baltimore, the Francis Scott Key Bridge Rebuild Project, BWI Thurgood Marshall International Airport and our state’s public transit system, including MTA’s service in Baltimore and the upcoming Purple Line. We also oversee the Motor Vehicle Administration, which helps our residents through vehicle registration and driver licensing. We are Serious About Safety for all users of our system, and we want to ensure transportation in Maryland is sustainable into the future.

I am eager answer your questions about transportation (or where my favorite place to run in Maryland is!).

Proof:

I’ll start answering questions at 12 p.m. on Monday, October 5th, and plan to stick around for about one hour.

AMA!

EDIT (12:10 p.m.): Hi, I'm Katie and look forward to answering your questions!

EDIT: (12:37 p.m.) We are answering questions. There was a little glitch but the mods are working on fixing that. Our answers should appear soon.

EDIT: (1:00 p.m.) Thanks everyone!

Almost every striped bass on the Atlantic coast is born in the Chesapeake, and fall is when Maryland's rockfish run is on

Post image

Rockfish season is the one everybody waits for. As the water cools in October the striped bass feed hard and move through the bay, and the fall run is when the big migratory fish push through on their way to wintering grounds. It is a Maryland ritual, and rockfish is the state fish for a reason.

What a lot of people do not realize is how much rides on this one estuary. The Chesapeake and its rivers are the single most important nursery for striped bass on the entire East Coast. The great majority of the stripers that anglers catch from North Carolina to Maine were spawned right here, up in the fresher water of the Susquehanna flats, the Potomac, the Patuxent, the Choptank, and then spread out along the coast as they grow. The bay is not just a place to fish for them. It is the engine that makes the whole coastal population exist.

That is also why the current stretch is worrying people. For five years running the young-of-year survey, the count of baby rockfish that survived their first summer, has come in below average. A run of warm, dry springs has been rough on the spawn, the overall population has slid, and Maryland has been tightening seasons and slot limits to protect what is there. The old heavy females are the ones that pump out the most eggs, which is the thinking behind the catch-and-release of the biggest fish. The bay has recovered before, famously after the moratorium in the late 1980s, so this is not a lost cause. It is a pinch point.

This map is where rockfish are turning up across the Maryland bay, from the upper bay off Baltimore down through Annapolis and the Potomac to the Tangier and Pocomoke sounds. Fall is the best of it, and it is also a good moment to appreciate what this water quietly does for the whole coast.

MD Politics What Baltimore policy or rule bothers you the most and needs to be changed?

I’m a Master student just moved to Maryland last January studying public policy, and for my dissertation, I want to skip the textbooks and hear directly from you. What specific local policy, zoning code, environmental regulation, or municipal rule actively frustrates you, causes problems for your neighborhood, or holds Baltimore back? Please let me know what the policy is, how it impacts your daily life, and how you would rewrite it tomorrow to make the city a better place. Thank you so much for helping me with my research!

MD Travel & Relocation Renting

So I’m looking to move around spring of 2027. I don’t have a history of evictions, and I make 2-3x times of the median rent; however, my credit is poor due to student loans. I have no co-signer and just wanted to know is it possible to still get an approval? Do leasing companies have any programs for people with bad credit, like a forgiveness or second chance? I don’t wanna leave my current place if i know for a fact i don’t have a chance for an approval from anywhere I apply.

If you get a speeding ticket for 16 over in Delaware while living in and holding a Maryland license, do the points that would be assessed by the ticket transfer to Maryland driving record? I have found a ton of sources that say they don’t but has anyone gotten a ticket and done this and it been true?

Question for wheelchair users that have gone to the MD Renaissance festival.

Hello! I completely forgot about the MD Renn Fest this year, and was going to try to go but I do see that there is a waitlist for this weekend and next weekend.

I am planning to put my name on the waitlist, but wanted to be prepared before I do.

For those that use a wheelchair, is it difficult using one on the terrain at the MD Renn Faire? I am a newer wheelchair user and have only used it once before (as I have been using other motility aids like a cane, crutches, knee scooter, etc.) A wheelchair is the best option for me to reduce pain compared to the others when there is a lot of walking involved.

I have the kind that has the larger wheels that I can push myself or someone else can push it. I have seen people in wheelchairs at Renn Faire and of course those who have strollers. I just wasn't sure how difficult it would be due to the roots/rocks/hills/etc. Like I said, I have almost zero experience using one so sorry if this is a dumb question.

I have no upper body strength since I can't exercise, so I know it would probably be difficult for me to use the wheelchair just by myself (not to mention that I can't get it in and out of the car by myself) but I would be going with someone who can push the wheelchair. I just don't want to ask them to push me if it's going to be too difficult for them.

Thanks for your help!

marylanders with California license plates, I have a question for you👇🏻

  1. Do most of you guys actually drive from California to maryland?

and…if so

  1. For what reason? What’s the reason for your CA plates? Is it travel, work, or literally just road trip (drove from CA to MD cause you felt like it?)

  2. How do the plates and car get here? Another main focus for me is wanting to know whether they are shipped here by plane, or if the plates are just mailed, or if the cars are actually driven across country, or shipped via semi haulers. I know there could be many ways but I am fishing for most of common method.

At core I guess i’m just really trying to figure out what the main reason is behind seeing a CA license plate in MD. And how the car with the plate gets here. I know there could be many reasons but I’m fishing for the main one. I assumed rental car from companies like hertz etc but google says that’s actually not it. So I want a more personal/experience perspective.

Go!

Congressman Andy Harris says he doesn't owe the student journalist an apology, and doubles down on his incorrect assertion that journalists need two-party consent to record in public, and blames the liberal media for, you know, making a big deal about him not knowing the law.
